So I've been out of the scene for a couple of months now and things have progressed quite a bit. I just updated my Gateway to the latest firmware along with my Emunand.

Currently my Sysnand is at FW 9.0 and my Emunand is at 1.0.7. I'm still using MSET to boot into Emunand while having to keep my Gateway in my 3DS at all times. Months ago I was told it was best to just keep using the Gateway and everything would be good. Now I'm seeing thing about A9LH and AuReiNand I was wondering if I should now be switching to that instead of using Gateway.

I was also wondering if I did go through with doing that would I lose everything that is installed on that Emunand and all the saves?

Thanks for any and all help.

First off, you don't lose anything if you are doing it right by following tutorials. GW nowadays is only good for cheats and loading .3ds files. If you don't need GW cheats or the capability to load .3ds files, I would recommend you start with this guide to setup CFW and everything. It's awesome. Once you set everything up and played a couple of weeks, you can try the next step in CFW, A9LH. Though it's not really needed. It's basically a way for more convenient CFW use. It involves a lot of NAND backups and restores and could lead to bricking if done wrong.

Switch to rxtools 3.0 beta 2 and update to 9.2 so you can install menu/theme hax to auto boot into emunand/CFW.

It's been a little bit of a struggle trying to understand all this A9HL stuff and don't want to be depending on my Gateway anymore especially as I only use CIA and never use cheats. Thanks for the help.

Like I've said a couple of times on this forum, I personally just sold my Gateway, setup Arm9loaderhax, and went all out Cia with the use of a 128 GB micro SD.
I feel like a whole lot of weight was lifted off my shoulders, and so many benefits were opened up to me. My setup right now, makes Gateway a piece of shit.

But yeah as users have said, you can keep it. But only ever use it as a secondary, not a primary. You can use it for extra space if you ever need it. I personally think that if you needed to use it as extra space, it just means that you don't have a big enough SD card in the first place.

You don't necessarily have to go the A9LH route, you can simply continue to use menuhax + CFW such as rxTools/ReiNand.
Either way, you can enjoy the cia only life. I know you can use cia's on Gateway, but Gateway has a crappy boot rate that can become really irritating. Other CFW boot up way better.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
