Make your emuNAND.bin and keep it somewhere safe righ away, after the 2.1 downgrade and the otp.bin dump:
  1. Restore your 9.2 sysNAND
  2. make the arm9loaderhax.3dsx with your otp.bin (and keep several copies of the N3DS of yours everywhere you can)
  3. Put your emuNAND.bin in your SD and rename it to NAND.bin
  4. Open Homebrew Launcher and run arm9loaderhax.3dsx (it will make the the NAND.bin [your old and upgraded emuNAND] restore automatically)
  5. And have fun having a updated sysNAND (clone of old emuNAND with all your data) with A9LH
cool thankyou

sysNAND all the way!

EmuNAND becomes useless (especially now that D9 fully works on A9LH).
People are scared they think their sysnand can be bricked, but it can be fixed just like with emunand.

I asked some knowledgeable about this, they said Nintendo can't and will not patch A9LH. Even if they got close to it, you can simply restore a sysnand backup with A9LH, same way you would with emunand.

bro you have me right on the edge of making the move, the more i read your posts the more i am thinking about going sysnand only

i must be brave or resist, which instinct will win :P

Alright, so after many on (and off) topic posts I think I will just switch out my nands and call it there. Thanks for all the feedback guys and gals!!

EDIT: And I just did the swap. Loves me some <10 second boot times!!

I'm seriously considering ditching my Gateway as my primary source. I'm gonna take it's 64 GB micro SD, and shove it into my 3DS. Then swap the 32 GB micro SD from my 3DS and put it in my Gateway. That way I can use the Gateway, as a way of "extra space".

I'm tired of being bound to Gateway, but I spent money on it! So this will be the best way to treat my situation. Now it's time to attempt A9LH! I believe in myself, a user who's been in 3ds hacks since 2014

Edit: Contradicted myself, how the heck am I gonna use sysnand as primary (updated to 10.6), while still be able to boot into Gateway emunand?! Since Gateway requires 9.0 firm to launch it. Damn you Gateway! Someone buy it from me!

I should wait for one of two things: If Gateway will release their own arm9loader bin file, or if they will support 10.6 firmware like they said they would (But then if Nintendo goes passed 10.6, then I'll be locked out of Gateway again!) Ugh!

So, if emunand is "useless" now as some of you say, can i just delete emunand partition from sd card? I kept 9.2 emunand for stuff like decrypt9, but since it can be launched with a9lh, it is no longer needed?
Does this also mean the death of Gateway3DS?

Meanwhile i'm just playing it safe with a Sky3DS+ HEHE

If your emunand is 9.2 then just move it to a new sd card and use that to launch gatewat.

none really besides freeing up space on your sd and not having to install vc on both nands. but i feel emunand is safer.
emuNAND is no safer than sysNAND with the writing patches. Nintendo could just as easily mess with your sysNAND while in emuNAND as they could while actually running sysNAND. The firm write patches make sysNAND just as safe as emuNAND.

its safer in the fact if you screw up emunand you can restor it you need a hardmod to restor sysnand

Yeah, but people are still scared of sysNAND for some reason.

Hell, even the OTP guide prefers sysNAND over emuNAND.

If you're on A9LH (and especially with AuReiNAND as that automatically blocks FIRM0/FIRM1), then you're safe.

Not really.. If you have A9LH you can simply boot into D9 and restore a NAND backup, almost the same way you would with emuNAND.

You can't brick sysNAND because of the write patches. As long as you have one backup you will always be able to keep your system working.

NO MATTER WHAT WITH WRITE PATCHES THE SYSNAND CANNOT BE BRICKED AND EVEN IF NINTENDO FOUND A WAY TO BYPASS THE WRITE PATCHES THEY COULD USE THE SAME METHOD TO WRITE TO SYSNAND FROM EMUNAND.

Reclaiming 2 GB of SD space (eh)
GBA games (if you partake) only need to be installed on sysNAND (eh)
sysNAND boots like 5 ish seconds faster (eh)

Advantages (sure) are any of these advantages deal breakers (not so sure but you will find plenty of opinions starting with mine).

Be cool vote emuNAND for CFW President and let sysNAND settle for Vice President.
i agree with this view. SystemNand used to be socrosanct. Kept pristine and untouched. Vanilla if you prefer. Now suddenly it's so hip to start messing with it. for what 5 whole seconds, and you can still have gba with emunand. So what if you lose 2 Gb off of your sd card. if youv'e got a 64Gb card 2Gb is like 1 game, maybe 2. No leave well enough alone....just my opinion....thank you.

Or... you can have a updated sysNAND and a emuNAND on 9.x with 9.0 FIRM and run it easily

I really want to use a9lh but i keep hearing ppl brick when they followed the instructions exactly and i dont have money for a hardmod i only have 15$ in giftcards on me.

Probably they did something wrong, or a corrupt file to downgrade the emuNAND to 2.1, or a corrupt XORpad or used a broken arm9loaderhax.3dsx generator that made a 3dsx file that bricked the N3DS, or they are really unlucky
Checking twice (maybe 3 times) your files will really increase your chances to do all just fine

quick question, as you know i am gearing up to make the move to a sysnand only system, what happens regards the AuRei firms we are using, for example when game come out (in the future) that require fw 11.2 as an example ? Will we get a new fw file or will we be screwed ?

We'll get new FIRM files :P

That's how its always been, iirc.
When updating emuNAND 9.2 to 10.6 you need a new firmware file. Same thing applies to sysNAND, the CFW devs would need to support the newest FIRM.

Yeah, it sounds scary at first. Since we've always been told that sysNAND should never be touched (unless needed to), but that only applies to menuhax. No need to be scared of sysNAND anymore. Bricked your sysNAND on A9LH?

Luckily you don't require a hardmod anymore, simply boot up Decrypt9.
