I've been running Pasta through Ninjhax 1.1b for over a year now without issues. I haven't felt the need to change my setup as the only thing I'm interested in doing is playing games. This didn't seem to be a problem when the FW requirements for most games were lower than 9.2 or .cia files were getting FW spoofed/patched.

Now, I'm finding it more difficult to obtain FW spoofed cia files. It seems it's just assumed that everyone is running a 10.6 emunand. I don't really want to get rid of my entire Pasta setup, so my question: Is it possible to run Pasta and another CFW off of the same SD card? Do I need different SD cards?

I also have a Gateway card. I haven't used it much since I went to CFW, but I did create a emunand partition a long time ago, so that has already been set up. I thought about using the GW emunand to play, but when I fired it up, all of my .cia files are moved out of my folders and wrapped back up. I've read about unlinking nands by formatting sysnand, but I'm concerned that I would have to go back and reinstall everything.

In your opinion, what would be the best way to play the new .cia files and snes injections?

Thanks

Not surprised to see FW spoofed files less common, as now N3ds users have access to the latest FW versions on emunand.

Pasta is an elevated sysnand install, so yes it would be possible to run both a CFW on emunand if you make an emunand partition and pasta booting to sysnand when you desire.

Thanks. I'm not quite sure I understand your last sentence. Install another CFW inside of the emunand? As I mentioned above, I already have an emunand partition available as I have a GW card. I guess what I was looking for was:

1. Is there another CFW which can use the Ninjhax 1.1b exploit as an entry point, and I can choose between Pasta and the other CFW when loading? If so, what would be the easiest?
2. Use the GW card to access the current Emunand. I'm not sure how to install a .cia under GW as I've only installed .3ds files. Also is there a way to unlink the nands without losing all of the info on the SD Card?

1. No, all current CFWs launched via the Homebrew loader require you to update to *hax 2.x or higher. I don't think the build of Pasta you're using is compatible with 2.x but you can swap to mini Pasta if you're that adamant about sticking with Pasta.

2. You don't "install" .3ds files, you run them from the Red Cart. You can use a .3ds version of devmenu (from the Gateway website) to install a .cia title manager.

It's recommended you remove the SD card before formatting your sysNAND to unlink, this way you don't lose your data.

If you decide to format your emuNAND to unlink instead, there's no way of avoiding losing your files. You'll need to backup both your SD card and your emuNAND beforehand. You can then restore them after the process is completed.

1. Bummer. I was hoping to still use the same entry point to access Homebrew loader, and just select a different CFW. I didn't really want to reset everything up.
2. I think I'll use GW for new games which aren't FW spoofed. This N3DS doesn't have anything downloaded from the eshop on either sysnand or emunand. I guess the easiest way to do it would be to format sysnand. That should clear up the unwrapping issue. First two questions:

If I format sysnand, will it try to ask me to update sysnand FW first? I thought I had read a while back that it was now asking users to upgrade the sysnand FW.
If I format sysnand, will I have to reinstall any component for Pasta if I have the SD card out during reformat?

Thanks.

Use menuhax as an entry point instead + Reinand (or rxtools) to boot your emunand, Then update your emunand to the latest version.

If you follow any of the guides in the guides section it should make it so you turn on your 3ds, it boots straight to emunand. No hassle or dealing in sysnand at all. Since you have some familiarity with this stuff, it shouldn't take you more than an hour or two to set up. It will be harder to keep your old methods than just learning the new ones.

Possibly. I was just trying to avoid reinstalling about 50Gb of cia files. :)

Do you have a link to a specific guide for menuhax and Reinand?

Well, it is pretty easy.
1.Do Backups
2. Do sysnand format with Tinyformat.3dsx (won't unlink nnid and won't format sd card)
3. set up up device
4. Use ninjhax 2.x to install menuhax (included in the homebrew startet package, download that on smealum.github.io/3ds (and install reinand (n3ds only) or rxtools or cakesfw or use newest gw3ds launcher)
5. Update emunand to 10.6
6.?????
7.Profit!

Thanks to everyone who linked guides!

Artur3004 - I can update emunand through my GW card. My question was regarding having to unwrap about 60-70 gifts each time I enter emunand. If I format sysnand to eliminate the wrapping issues:

a: Does it ask me to update my sysnand FW? -and-
b: Will it break my current ability to access homebrew launcher and access Pasta.

Thanks.

Yeah, if you unlink nand's, unwrapping bug will not happen anymore. That's why it's recommended to unlink nand's.
Like I said, don't format with mset settings, use instead the homebrew tinyformat.3dsx.
You can install on emunand the homebrewlauncher.cia, which, obviously, boot homebrewmenu from the home menu

Thanks for the tip on tinyformat. One more question regarding it. If I use it on sysnand, will it removed the patched firm I installed in order to play GBA games?

So I unlinked nands only to find out after a reboot...that none of my games now show up on the menu. They're still installed on the SD card, but are just missing on the menu. Anyone know how to have them appear again, or do I need to start from scratch with this?

As long your emunand was linked to sysnand while you installed cia's they should be still on emunand

You shouldn't have to reinstall anything.

Shouldn't be harder than use menuhax to install menuhax. Then have it launch Reinand, Then update emunand.

It was late last night and I decided to say screw it and start from scratch. I re-formatted my 64Gb micro sd card as FAT32 again, and now the N3DS can't read it. Tried multiple times with different formatting utilities.

I guess it's time to get a new one.
