My friend is interested in downgrading his 2DS, he has all the available hardware. However, the only thing that seems to be holding him back is his StreetPass Mii Plaza save data (for whatever reason). Is there any way that, after downgrade and CFW, he could backup/restore his StreetPass Mii Plaza files back into his 2DS?

I downgraded my 3DS and never lost my mii plaza data (which means a lot to me). Just make sure that when he downgrades the FIRST thing he does is make a NAND backup. Then, if something goes terribly wrong, he can restore that (with a hardmod).

Streetpass is weird because it saves to the NAND, so its save data will be encrypted per-device. It is only possible to re-inject it if you have extracted movable.sed (a NAND file), iirc. (See: "manual system transfer" somewhere in this forum)

If he is worried about the part where you format your SysNAND to unlink his NANDs, re assure him that it will only affect his sysNAND and not his emuNAND. Make sure he follows the tutorials though, it would be bad if he forgot to create an emuNAND and accidentally deleted his stuff...

Of course, while it didn't happen to me and many others, there is a very, very small chance of a brick witch will (obviously) destroy all of his savedata. As long as he/you are careful, it should be fine.

It may be a bit hard for me to teach him without needing to transfer streetpass data myself. Long shot, are there any detailed tutorials on this?

Really wish I would have gone that route before I system formatted to improve my downgrade chance. But oh well got home pass set back up already! Really just wanted to say thanks for letting others know this tho!

Yeah, I kinda also used the first version of sysdowngrader (day it came out, too) without pre-formating my 3DS. My friend and I both have a 3ds and we both pressed "y" at the same time. It was an intense moment the second our 3DSs both rebooted themselves and turned on.

Thank gosh it didn't fail, that was before they added the feature that uninstalls the CIAs one at a time

Yeah, I think there are still tonnes of tutorials for downgrading your 3DS safely.

What are you trying to transfer streetpass to? The only "legit" way you can do it without kernel is with system transfer (I don't think hax* can access that type of save/back it up) which will update both 3DSs to 10.4 sadly. I'd say "go for it", but I guess it's hard to take downgrading advice from someone who beta-tested the brickhax software...

My best bud and I used to do stuff like that! Same time button pushes and whatnot. Who's going to come out on top!? Haha good memories. Anyways from what I've experienced and deciphered from files is backed up save data is really really strange in how many times you can use it. I backed up my system first before formatting and saves like that normal are "non transferable" so to speak. But I'm sure there's methods out there that can do it, I just gave up after first try cause it really didn't bother me to lose it lol. I'll look into mine some more.
