I'm using menuhax to coldboot to emunand (RxTools 3.0) via ctrbootmanager. About 25% of the time, the boot manager either fails to load at all, freezing the system on the exploit, or when it loads RxTools, it freezes. Similarly, when using the hblauncher CIA from yellows8 to boot into the homebrew launcher from sysnand, it sometimes outright fails to launch properly and freezes during the exploit. This is especially annoying in both cases since I have to reboot the system entirely. In both cases, the bottom screen is generally yellow, and rarely red.

Is there a way to make this more reliable, or am I out of luck?

There is a bypass. When it gets stuck on those screens you can hold down L plus R plus B and down on the dpad. this restarts the launcher. It doesn't work all the time but when it does, it saves a time consuming reboot.

I'm aware of this, but it generally doesn't work. Thanks for the response, though.

EDIT: Not to mention that that would probably only work if it got far enough to load the 3dsx in the first place. Presumably, in my case, it's failing to do so.

I find that I have better a boot rate using the rxtools 3dsx and bypassing ctrboot altogether. (I'm on the latest nightly on github)

I have also found if you just download the boot.3dsx from CTR again and replace it boots smoother. I think when you move a bunch of files some get a tad wonky.

Formatting my sysnand fixed it almost %100 for me, but obviously that might be out of the question for some users.

For menuhax specifically, having a boot image set up so that an image shows rather than the pixelated mess that's dumped from the RAM increases the success rate.

And how would I go about that? I see there's a thread talking about custom images for menuhax 2.0, are you referring to that? And would that method work on 2.1?

I'm using menuhax 2.0 with payload from themehax1.3 offline. It boots faster and 100% success rate so far (except when cakes failed to boot emunand). There is no pain at all.

If your on emunand change the theme at least once this resets menuhax which cases freezing on screens I get very reliable boots now.

"This app can setup an image for displaying on the main-screen when the menuhax triggers, if you use the app option for that. Using this is highly recommended(in some cases **hax payload booting may be more successful with this than without it). When the file for this isn't setup, junk will be displayed on the top-screen(from elsewhere in VRAM). The image can be either be the default one, or from SD. The input PNG for this is located at SD "/3ds/menuhax_manager/imagedisplay.png". The PNG dimensions must be either 800x240 or 240x800. The first half of the image(in terms of pixels) is for 3D-left, the rest is for the 3D-right. The 3D-right should be same as 3D-left if no stereoscopy is used by the image. See also #26. See the build-options section above regarding ENABLE_IMAGEDISPLAY_SD for the filepath where the actual raw image used by menuhax is stored on SD, if you need that."
