Result: Successful to downgrade (10.1 to 9.2)
Device: Old 3DS XL, Animal Crossing New Leaf Edition.
CIA Used: USA : 9.2.0-20U (Full)

Successful Entry Point: OOThax
Black screen after reboot. Able to load after removing SD card.
Recover after deleting contents in extdata folder:
\Nintendo 3DS\..\..\extdata

Failed Entry Point: MenuHax
--> Device stuck at step 6
6. If everything goes well, you should have some options. Since we're downgrading, you can go ahead and press the Y button.
Nothing happens when i press anything. I have to hard reset. After hard reset, unable to enter Homebrew. I quickly switch to
OOTHax.

Both hax was downloaded from smea, starter on 20151228

So from what I understand this error just means keep trying? Tried formatting my SD and all that already. It's 100% certainly FAT32 with 32 kb allocation. Used EaseUS partition master for formatting since it's a 64 gigs microSD and Windows natively forces ExFAT.

Device: New3DS XL
Current Sysnand firmware: 10.3.0-28E
Entrypoints: Getting it both with Ironhax and OOTHax.

I just downgraded my O3DS XL 10.3.0-28E to 9.2.0-20E
with the "sysUpdater-0.4.2b-libkhax-SAFEMODE-priority" of that known iso site.

The progress was been printed a bit glitched, but no problems at all.

Yep, basically. I used this guide, verbatim, to get the best results:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/what-i-believe-is-the-best-downgrade-process-right-now.408203/

Or you can still try booting and hoping it actually does steps 1-8. Before that guide I would only get to step 5-7 at best, never step 8. I did a bunch of other suggestions in between everything but eventually I just got annoyed and updated to 10.3 from 9.9, formatted and followed the guide. It would often only get to step 5 for a couple turns but then I switched to a sandisk microSD card and it got to step 7 a few times then finally to 8 and downgraded just fine. YMWV, of course.

Even that sysupdater as opposed to the one linked at the OP of this thread where the steps aren't shown? (I believe that the one from OP is the latest steveice update)

No, no this can't be happening PLEASE THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!!!! I downgraded, whenever I boot I get "an error has occurred". I can boot into recovery BUT I FORGOT TO REMOVE DNS!!!! I FORGOT!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO! IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO????

EDIT: Pheeeeeeeew. A kind person PMed me with how to change your DNS from recovery. Successfully updated back to 10.3!

Update on my N3DS Status:
Using the sysupdater from the "what i believe is the best downgrade process" thread (direct download link click here) it has just done all the CIA installs and is now on the reboot message! Woohoo! Took a whole bunch of tries for sure but setting menuhax to trigger on no button & using gridlauncher to have sysupdater be the first icon selected really shaves off minutes hehe!

Update 2:

System: new3ds xl
Old firmware: 10.3.0-28E
New firmware: 9.2.0-20E
Entrypoint: menuhax
Launcher: mashers'
Sysupdater version: see above
Happiness level: over 9000

When I downgrade it seems to be going well and says getting cia information. Downloaded cia information, rebooting in 10 seconds but it reboots to a 10.3 with no changes. What do I do?

Old 3DS or New 3DS? What entry point are you using? Ninjhax? Menuhax? Browserhax? Or what?

Old, XL, menuhax
10.3 to 9.2uFull

Are you using the correct .cias for your console's region?
Are you using the latest SysUpdater? (0.4.2b)
Have you tried it with any other entry point?
Have you tried it at least twice with Menuhax?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Just to be sure, this is the safest sysUpdater?

https://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-downgrading-your-3ds.407888/page-95#post-5923820

With so many links around the forum its hard to know what is the safer.

I even heard something about "sysUpdater-0.4.2b-libkhax-SAFEMODE-priority" but could not find it.

If it is 0.4.2b, yes. If you have a N3DS I recommend you wait for a more stable SysUpdater as the current one is unstable and could brick your console.

Yes to each.
US region on both.
I tried the page 95 updater 0.4.2b
Tried with browser which gives could not thread core error, and menuhax which says downloading cia, downloaded , rebooting in 10, reboots to main menu with no changes
tried menu hax a few times.

edit; I have a theory...
Oh! I think it's working!

I tried yesterday all day to downgrade my O3DS XL from 10.3.0.28U using sysUpdater from page 95, but I kept getting the soft-brick, "An Error Occurred" screen. I'm willing to give out a try to formatting my 3DS, but I'm wondering what is the correct way to go through the format process. Do I just back up my saves with svdt, format my 3DS, format my SD card, set up an entrypoint, try to downgrade, set up a CFW, unlink my NAND, link my NNID with emuNAND and download eveything again, and THEN restore my saves? Or is there a safer order of events?
