What is the difference between menuhax_manager v2.0 and CHMM2?
Do they both have the same functionality?
I am running 10.3 - 28U, I am still new to home-brew. I installed the starter kit on Hax 2.5 beta.

Menuhax manager will install the hacked theme that causes a buffer overflow letting you run *hax payloads, and it creates a new thing in extdata where you can install an actual theme.

Menuhax manager installs the hacked theme in the exact same place as CHMM2 installs custom themes. Therefore, if you are using menuhax, do not use CHMM2 as it will only uninstall menuhax.

Instead, as mentioned above, menuhax creates some new extdata where an actual regular theme can be stored. This extdata isn't normally there on non-hacked 3DSes and is only accessible by menuhax itself.
When you start up menuhax, if you don't load menuhax and instead choose to load directly to home menu, then the menuhax code will instead execute code that loads the theme from that new extdata and then runs the home menu normally, with your custom theme.
Some older versions of menuhax allowed you to compile the hax with a custom theme, so that the custom theme itself would be containing the exploit. This required you to manually compile menuhax so it wasn't very convenient, and it was somewhat unstable. But with menuhax 2.0 yellows8 added proper support for loading custom themes and it works flawlessly.

If you're using menuhax then only use menuhax manager to install custom themes.

I am getting an error with MenuHax_manager v2.1 when I load a downloaded theme from 3DSThem.es?

There reason I ask is because
I downloaded a theme from 3DSThem.es
I placed it in the Themes folder on the root of my 3DS Card
went into MenuHax Manager 2.1
hit install custom theme and got this error.

I've thought about using Menuhax, but I have a purchased theme and didn't feel like messing with things, so I stuck with ironHax, will MenuHax allow me to keep the theme I have and still use the hax?

The body_LZ.bin and bgm.bcstm of the theme have to placed in the /3ds/menuhax_manager folder on your SD Card for Menuhax's custom theme installation to work. If you don't want to go through the hassle of manually managing your themes, you can use Tinker (https://gbatemp.net/threads/tinker-shuffle-menuhax-theme-manager.407445/) to move the files for you. It's basically like a CHMM2 but for menuhax.

If you can find the body_LZ.bin and bgm.bcstm of the theme online then you can put them in your /3ds/menuhax_manager folder and use the manager to install your theme along with menuhax. There are links out there to some massive archives of official Nintendo themes hosted on MEGA or some other site. I can't link you because obviously it's piracy but since you own the theme in question I suppose it's OK in a way, just google for it.

Also, should we even be posting here, considering this is a really old thread?

It's not that old and it's still giving me some info, so what's the harm?

It's looking like you have menuhax 2.0 installed and haven't yet been to the select theme menu on the home menu.

Menuhax manager removes the need for this with 2.1 but only if you actually install menuhax from the 2.1 menuhax manager. Simplu running the app won't automatically initialize the required extdata (otherwisr you'd have to re-apply your custom theme every time you ran the app. :P)

Thank-you very much, I have used this method and took advantage of Tinker as well!
