Just bought a Wii U which has 5.4.0 on it , a few people told me that there is still things that could be done on this FW (in terms of hacking of course :P) , but i haven't really found any information about this.

(Sorry for being a newb.)

They say there's an exploit for 5.5.0 but they are keeping to themselves until the right time comes.

Userland exploit was patched in 5.4.0. Kernel exploit was patched in 5.5.0. Stay on 5.4.0 until 0day userland exploit gets patched by Nintendo and is released. If you update past 5.4.0 you would be waiting for a 0day userland+kernel vulnerability. Kernel vulnerabilities are more rare and less likely to get patched by Nintendo without being leaked.

You can always buy a console on older firmware from eBay/Amazon for about $130 without gamepad.

Paid $140 yesterday :P

It exits and it'll come...just don't expect it soon. Theres no timeframe for these things really so it could be months to years if at all.

With each update the userland exploit becomes less and less reliable. Development for IOS exploit becomes harder to do on later firmware when you can't even get the webkit exploit to function to move up to kernel. If you don't have the userland and kernel exploit then you would have great difficulty getting at IOSU.
If the ultimate goal is breaking IOSU and allowing full blown unsigned code functioning via channels and whatnot then leaking something that you know will cause updates and make it harder to gain access would be kind of dumb. Once every part of the wii u is broken down executing spoofing on IOSU updates will be able to happen then the softmod will be long lasting....(kinda like the wii)
