Okay, so if I follow that guide and then just go from there, how does that affect the blue card's ability to play NDS roms? Do I still need flashcardtimewarp?
You'll need flashcardtimewarp or the bluecardfix cia that's included with the Gateway download to be able to use the blue card on the N3DS.

Okay great! I think this is my last question, but, will downgrading my MSET break current retail saves? I've heard that it does but I'm not certain what the conditions are to avoid that.

Nope, downgrading the MSET won't cause any harm to saves or anything else you have installed. Only a full firmware downgrade would cause saves made with the 6.X encryption to break, and you can't do a full firmware downgrade on the N3DS.

HANS says my RomFS.bin is invalid. I used RomFS Builder. Is there a better program I should be using? It has the correct filename, and is in the correct place.

EDIT: nvm, should be called [titleidlow].romfs not [titleidlow].bin.
It works nicely now. :P This was NSMB2 (Europe) (not the eShop one), btw.

Hey there, i just tried to update my emunand

ith sysupdater to 9.5.0-23E using the cia-files from a big downloadpackage which is often linked here.

i placed the cia-files into "updates" on my micro-sd card and said to sysupdater "update".

Fun fact - i bricked my emunand *yay*

So yeah, need to inject my emunand back - one question altough... are gamesaves saved on the micro-sd card or on the nand? (yeah yeah - next time i gonna make a backup - lesson learnt)

And other Question - can i visit the e-shop with 9.0-20? I just want to update the games, or would the update to 9.5 necessary?

and if eshop is a nogo for me - can i just use the latest update.cia to update my game? (in this case pokemon Y has already Update 1.5 - can u just use 1.5 or do i need to use the whole chain from 1.1 to 1.5?)

Edit: tried it again and after the reboot it goes into bootloops :/ tried to disable the signature checks but nothing :(

:Edit2:
So yeah - now everybody should know what happens when you want to install old 3ds firmware on a new 3ds xl emunand :D

@Seelbreaker The saves are stored in the Micro SD but not in the emunand partition.

So if you reinstall let's say a backed emunand from yesterday, you'll still have the savegames from today.

The games in the other hand are written into the nand (emunand in this case) so a game installed today wouldn't be there until you reinstall it, but the save game should work.

You can just use smea's 2.5 Hax to access eShop in 9.0 either in sysnand or emunamd anyways.

Well, there is nothing wrong with having a 9.5 emunand, some games need 9.4 or 9.5 anyways so you would do it sooner out later.

Just install Cubic Ninja in emunand, install Ninjhax 2.5 and you'll be able to enter the eshop with HANS.

I suggest you to reinstall from scratch with the latest starter pack and re-write all the current apps in your 3DS folder.

Smea updated some payloads and apps to make everything work properly.
Uff... what has changed since 3 days? Been using this Tutorial since i don't have Cubic Ninja retail:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-how-to-install-a-cfw-on-a-9-0-9-2-n3ds-without-cn-oot.398394/

Which means i use cake-CFW to load Emunand with signatures patched out

And somehow no Tutorial has ever mentioned something like that...

:Edit:

wouldn't it just be enough to put the content of the starter.zip to my sd-card?
https://twitter.com/smealum/status/661427812390211584

then start hbmenu in emunand and there i just start hans?

Is there any way to restore a NAND dump without a DS flashcart or a hack game? I have access to rxTools, but that won't let me write a NAND.bin to my system. I for some reason can't use my R4 on my 4.5 3DS to install the Gateway MSET exploit, but it works perfectly fine on my bro's 3DS which is on the same firmware. Or, is it possible to install the Gateway MSET exploit on a O3DS without a flashcart?

Boot into the gateway menu from the web browser, I think there is an option to restore your nand backup.

Doesn't boot into the Gateway menu no matter how many times I try, will try the link Aroth gave me in a bit though.

Actually the link I gave you will only work on 9.0-9.2.

Idk what to tell you if you are stuck on 4.5 with no way to dump your nand.

Best bet is probably to hold off on the nand dump for now and use rxtool's devmode and sysupdater to update your system to 9.0/9.2 and go from there. In all reality there is no reason to stay on 4.x anymore.

If he has a 4.5 system he probably doesnt have a browser.

Edit also that might only be for 9.0-9.2 systems, idk.

Wrong and wrong.

1) Most people in 4.5 have a working exploitable web browser.

2) You can downgrade to 4.2 and/or restore a NAND backup in any firmware using gateway's launcher as long you can get to the menu.
