Steam Sets New Record For Concurrent Users on Halloween

2959199-steam1.jpg

On October 31, more than 12.5 million logged in at the same time, according to the Steam Stats page. That represents a new all-time high, surpassing 10.7 million in earlier in October, 10 million in June, which was up from 9.5 million in May.

Steam continues to impress with its amazingly high userbase. Did you play any games on Halloween? Perhaps some Left 4 Dead or more of the fantastic Halloween themed Team Fortress 2?

I totally skipped out on Team Fortress 2's event and free items. I feel like kicking myself over it, but then again I stopped playing that game a while ago because of Gun Mettle.

Interestingly, PC gaming is gaining momentum quite nicely. Even though I own a PS4 and WiiU, I'm very tempted to take the last step and get the games streamed to my TV via Steam Link or Nvidia Shield TV. This would bring the console experience without much hassle with near unlimited upgradability and possibly cheaper prices.

I can't speak to the Steam Link, but the Shield TV has worked flawlessly for me. You just need to have a fast enough dual-band router for either. Worth the cost of admission, though, as I can play games like Rocket League splitscreen with a friend, and online too. Only increases my ping from about 50 to 60, surprisingly.

And yeah, it does more than a sufficient job of being a next-gen console substitute since it can stream video and much of my Steam library in 4K/60FPS. Essentially a whole generation ahead of the power curve in that regard.

Yeah, this is something I'm on the edge. Currently I have a load of controllers available, so I would need only the base unit. Sadly the Shield is sold only with a controller, while the Link is just a streaming box. Oh well, if a good deal comes out during black friday or christmas, I'll buy the Shield TV :)

I'm generally not into horror games, but a couple of friends did play some horror games on my PC on Halloween. I only had those games due to them coming with some Humble Bundles I bought before. As for Steam, I don't even have it installed anymore.
