I absolutely hate people that cheat in online games.

It is worse then piracy. At least with piracy your not directly ruining the gaming experience for other people. Hack, mod and hex edit your roms/saves all you want. But if you intend to go online, have the fucking courtesy to load an unmodded save, or turn your cheats off!

Absolutely. It takes away the game experience from everyone playing with said cheater. It is completely annoying when someone thinks it is appropriate to deviate from the level playing field. Play online the way it was intended to be played; don't ruin other people's experiences and waste everyone's time.

This is what I ran into today,

Cause I swear I just helped a dude complete the game that had a suit he shouldn't have had. It was his first run, because he got the quest item at the end, yet had the sword masters suit. How does that work?

I know it's not a big deal, but it's enough to make it too easy. Plus this is one of those games where the entire objective is ruined with any cheat. Why? There's no reason to play once you hex the items. Game completed.

How would you define cheating? Do cosmetic things count? Is it just anything the dev does not allow? I have macros for both my keyboard and my mouse, do they count? Does generating pokemon that would be perfectly valid and easy to make "normally" count?

Anything that circumvents the game mechanics. I wouldn't consider changing textures as cheating, I would consider generating even legit pokemon as cheating.

I sure do love botting. It takes out all of the grinding I need to do, so I can just do the cool looking shit.
I just don't play games that have a job.

On the textures thing I have to be a bastard and contemplate things that deliberately look similar to each other/the background and possibly with a negative associated with that, though I suppose that is covered by the game mechanics part.

If macros are out where does selectable dpi mouse sit?

We had a thread on the pokemon thing though so I will probably want to drag that one back up before starting it again here.

The thing about texture is that it typically only effects the person that modded. If I turned mario all green in mk7 then joined an online game, he would look normal to everyone else. I'm not much for mmo's but I think macros are designed to be used in most of them. Again controls only really effect the primary user. To be fair, as long as I don't notice an unfair advantage, or if my game experience isn't ruined, it's not really an issue to me. It's that, if you dont see it it's not there, kinda thing. An example of what I don't like is I played triforce heroes the other day and helped a guy finish the game. I realized it was his first run because he got the quest item at the end. Which pissed me off because he had one of the, almost, unobtainable suits. Which made it far to easy. Not only did he cheat, but I felt like he tricked me into helping him.

I was thinking more if I replaced the texture of the fake block in Mario Kart 64, or made other players neon green when they would normally blend somewhat into the background.

Give two players or similar skill, though skills on the higher end, such a control setup and the one that can change mouse DPI will have a massive advantage. Macros are more commonly used to make up for shortcomings in things like world of warcraft but they certainly have their uses in other games -- I press a button and send my field of view up 10 degrees and fire a grenade at the end of that is very much in macro territory.

The scenario you describe at the end there seems odd to me, at least that you might be upset about it.

Anyway I can do edge cases and what ifs all day, as such I tend to write off online play in general.

I see what you mean now. And yeah, that's too far. I had said in a post, that veho converted to a blog, that cheating is fine. But if you go online, it would be right to load an unaltered save or an unmodded rom/iso/etc. The line can be fuzzy, but I think a good rule would be not to impose on other players, whether it helps them or not.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also, the triforce heroes thing. I'm upset because now this game has no value. Yes I could play locally and know that people aren't cheating, but I'll never again be able to play online without talking, which I think is a great challenge. Because I won't know for certain if the other people cheated, if my accomplishment is legit or not. I play for that 'fuck yes!, Finally got it' moments. And cheating takes that away. Now it's just, 'eh that was a neat game'.

I suppose it makes it easy, does not mean it is the only way -- the legal mons thing are mathematically unable to change play and from what I have read there is not even a probability factor at play (I could understand if it was a 2000 hour investment or skill investment to get a good mon but it is a weekend's grinding from what I can see).

I like hacking in online games but mostly if it doesn't affect anyone else. Sometimes I just want to troll people.
I like going to somewhere nobody can reach me in DarkRP and money printing lol
Especially the skybox :D
