Ok, it's not the filesize. I removed 82kb of image data (the still water image and an unused font size) which got the whole binary down to below 1.4MB - less than it was before I added the shortcut code. The exact same thing happens. I think it must be the sheer amount of code causing this problem. At this rate I'm completely stumped. I don't know how to get around this, and it's preventing me from adding any more features to the launcher.
there is indeed a limitation on the amount of code you can use for the menu, because it's meant to be able to run under any title and the smallest title we have by default is dlplay which only has about 588KB of RX memory available. you can have basically as much data as you want. unfortunately this limitation (which, again, only applies to the menu) is not about to go away in order to maximize compatibility with host titles, so it will be necessary for you to work with it. one easy thing you can do is compile non-performance-essential pieces of code as -Os.
for reference, portal3DS's code takes up less than 340KB without any kind of code size optimization, so it's entirely possible to fit complex programs within these limits.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, (I'm not going to read though over 100 pages to find out) but would it be possible to add a homebrew deletion option? That way we would have to stick our sd cards into our computers as often. I'm sure N3DS users would appreciate it.

There is a shortcut for the micro sd manager actually, so it isn't that much of a hassle but it isn't a bad idea to be able to delete folders inside the 3ds one.
EDIT: Actually we can do this with svdt and there are other apps too

I get "Missing Title" when selecting the Mario Kart mod shortcut. Any ideas? And yeah, I have the game and I was playing the mod just fine yesterday
Could you try if it's working on smealum's launcher? They now have the same hans shortcut code.

Glad to see HANS shortcuts added, the one feature I was waiting for so I could drop smea's launcher again. HANS shortcuts imo are pretty important and HANS is a big part of hax 2.5. It would be a shame if this launcher didn't support at a minimum all baseline features from the normal HBL.

Great job!
You already could use all of those features since 2.5 came out, just you couldn't use shortcuts. :P
You could manually go into HANS and load the eShop from there or any other game.

And that's why the dude you are quoting said shortcuts after every HANS.
I know that. The impression I got from the post is that they thought the shortcuts were necessary for HANS functionality. :P
Guess they were annoyed at not having shortcuts but you didn't really lose any functionality from using grid launcher over smea's launcher.

There was an option to display the titles id while navigating them, but now I can't find it anymore. Was that option cut off?

Supposedly. It was only added to help with ignored titles but since you can handle that in the launcher itself it was removed(?).

@mashers about random sleep themes, nds could detect lid status, I've looked at ctrulib and 3dbrew and couldn't find something similar.

I'm I correct by thinking you still need to make the shortcuts manually?
@mashers if you want I already hace the code to create shortcuts in my launcher, need pre-defined paths for hans though.

Nah I wasn't implying they were necessary, just that they make the Hans experience (that sounds kind of weird, but whatever) a lot nicer.

Anyways, finally got a chance to try beta 81 after the last one I used was 65 or so before hax 2.5 came out. I haven't had enough time to test the background loading function more thoroughly, but thus far I haven't had any lockups with it enabled like I used to. I have a lot of system titles and as you clearly point out in the launcher, background loading can be pretty unstable in that situation. But it seems a lot better now. The page transition animation is nice as well.

I'm always impressed by how much this improves every week. Great job @mashers :)
