Stop saying stuff without evidence. I never said I wanted a melee clone. I would play it. I just was thinking of mod names.

I don't hate Melee (its ultraoffensive style it's not my cup of tea, but i'm a fast learner) i loathe its community

Oh my God. I love all the smash games. I never played melee or 64 but they are cool

I love the whole series, but the Melee community is annoying. However if you have a semi-decent PC you can actually get Mupen and Ishiiruka and play Melee and 64 at your plesaure. Those games are the root of the series so they are worth a few thousand hours.

I think Sm4sh modding would be amazing if everyone didn't try to make it like PM. I even have my own mod called Smash UX which tries in all ways possible not to be PM.

Hi, I've been playing Smash 4 with competitive intent since January. Ten months, whoop dee doo.

and Melee since.. like, a month and a half ago, tops. You should know, from this information, that I know the basics of Melee but have gone as deep into 4 as I can at the moment.

It doesn't take massive amounts of knowledge to detect that Sm4sh is no 'perfect middleground' - as honestly, if Melee is your point 1 and Sm4sh is your point 1.5, I have no idea what the hell your point 2 is.

Consider: 64 scene died on Melee release, revived, and is almost dead today; Brawl scene died _very quickly_ because of a flaw S4 has (defensive gameplay) along with one S4 makes worse (a horrible stagelist) and one S4 lacks (single-character meta); some fool tried to revive it, but needless to say, Brawl is almost dead. Smash 4, as soon as DLC is over, is definitely going to die as soon as two or three years, tops, unless Sakurai fixes a lot of crippling flaws in the game as-is, such as the _still_ defensively rewarding gameplay (no amount of 'but ZSS' and 'but shield nerfs!' will help with this; unless every character's offensive potential is increased, be it in the form of _much_ more hitstun or removing the massive amounts of lag found on most characters, or maybe just increasing the gravity) and the still awkward balance (I'd love to horseshit about how the balance is awful with you, but some concrete stuff for you: I compared the actual numbers of characters that are considered capable of winning a major to the full roster count, and Melee's is a few % higher). And yet.. Melee lasted 14 years.

64 has the advantage of hyperaggressive gameplay; Melee has the advantage of 14 solid years of characters being fleshed out to the core, deconstructed, reconstructed, time and time again until the true best were figured out and the question of 'why' no loner existed. It has the advantage of equally hyperaggressive gameplay to 64, with a technical play requirement that would make any fighting game fan get diabetes just off of how sweet it is. Brawl has the advantage of more technical aspects, such as things like DACUS which were found to be in S4's engine early on (FYI: it's a rehash of Brawl's engine, in case it wasn't noticable) and removed from 4 for no given reason.

4 has the advantage of.. a roster and looking nice. At best.

long story short..

not to shit on a game I love and all, but if someone releases a PM2 or a Smash 4+ to fix all of Sakurai's mistakes or even a Smash 4 Minus to fuck around with, I won't even feel slightly bad about letting go of the default game for a while, because Melee's gameplay is infinitely smoother and faster, S4 honestly has a lot of mistakes to fix, and atm S4 is missing the kind of fun horseshit that you kind of come to love that could be solved by each of those 3 things individually.





tl;dr for you: ignore the wall of text and let me ask you to, for the love of god, not generalize shit like 'you Melee fans' or 'lol sm4sh is perfect'. coming from someone who's played the game longer than any other smash game, please believe me when I say S4 has a lot of dumb shit to be handled before it's even close to being as good as Melee both objectively and from a general player perspective. I PRAY for a mod for the game to happen eventually.

Hey, it's the Smash Bros UX guy! I was one of the first people to comment on all the things your mod _doesn't_ do, if I recall correctly. Such as have a directional goal in mind, or solid balancing, or [a] specific aspect(s) that will draw people in.

I was actually going to bring that up in the form of..

..well. Two things.

- Is that really what we want out of S4 modding? Fairly-directionless mods that will (generally) never garner a very big fan following, nor have a large level of technical depth or simply _extremely fun gameplay_ that would lend for that kind of following? (No insult to your mod, of course, chances are played right it could hypothetically be either, but until there's much proof of such, hear me out on this). Consider: a 4+ - simply a balance patch, not with massive gameplay changes or such - would be loved forever by the community, as Nintendo is considered a special kind of stupid about patching their games; a 4-, with the kind of hectic no-holds-barred gameplay that you'd expectfrom things like B- and M-, which could be pushed to the limits with jankier characters such as WFT, Duck Hunt, Rosalina and Mii Gunner having been added to the game; and a PM2, which while a mess to start with would DEFINITELY be instantly played by almost anyone who had the time to play it solely because it exists, are the only mods that immediately come to mind regarding making the game better. Then what? Giving custom moves to DLC characters, enhancing modes already present such as Smash Run, adding new features to a few casual modes and maybe making Equipment balanced, and then.. there's.. not much to do from there in. Maybe add a few missing characters, but all of those are things with really obvious directions; ditching projects that make perfect sense, would definitely be played and could definitely be fun just because they were done the last time around is a recipe for lowkey boredom and generally for everyone to just go play a different romhack, like X\Y romhacks or translations or such.

Been playing Smash since the first entry. Thousands and thousands of hours per game. Not a fan of Melee gameplay, not a hater either.

as for you tho i gotta give you a pat on the back for me almost taking you 100% seriously. then you started saying the melee and smogon communities - the only reason smash and pokemon are taken seriously ever, for your information, as competitive smash would be VERY dead right now without melee's community [and the same for Smogon to competitive 'mon].

The only problem is, Project M was a massive project that took years of work to make happen. 3DS game hacks have literally just birthed. It's like a parent trying to get their 12 year old into high-school.

depends on the definition of high school. because of a few grade skips, i started ninth grade in a high school (taking tenth grade classes at the time) when I was thirteen, so i mean..

I'm pretty sure 100% of neckbeard Melee players are joking. You keep falling for it. It's people that hate Melee players that are worse than Melee players, because the former are actually serious.

I agree man, first time I got smash 4 and tried it after having played Fox-only on Final Destination for years in Melee, I was so disappointed. I couldn't Doowop an Skippity Uppity Airslap into a Wavedashed Cockdump Sparklenut. You aren't even allowed to spitshine a ledge canceled Dickknob after Twirlywhirly Dibbidybobbidyboo 2: Electric Boogaloo, absolutely inexcusable.

He's right, though. The Pokémon competitive community was 100% better before Smogon existed.
Now a small group of players decides what people can or can't play worldwide.

The only thing I'd want for a Smash 4 mod is Project M's stamina without blast zones.

But seriously I hope someone can explore and open the doors for smash bros mods. I wish I could help but I am learning a little LUA coding
I've been working on a actual custom character for Sm4sh. But got nearly no where so far. I have the model imported in the game and animations are in too, but the game claims an error occurred and I need to refer to the Nintendo Manuel. ( Like it's going to give me hacking advice. HA! ) But, no. I am stuck on my own project.
