Genesis Plus GX runs Master System, Game Gear, Genesis, SG-1000, and Sega CD games, to be more specific. Picodrive runs Genesis, Master System, Sega CD and 32X, with a caveat: 32X games will crash on 3dsx builds due to 3dsx not supporting dynamic recompilation.

I haven't touched the 3DS version yet, but it should be safe to assume it covers everything Sega up to the Sega CD, so yes.

Ok, cool guys

Isn't the Sega Saturn very similar to the 32x? I'm not extremely knowledgeable about either's architecture, but does anybody know why the Saturn is much harder to emulate than 32x?

Similar to the 32x? Errr, no, it isn't....
Saturn was originally going to be a 2D powerhouse: Sega must've thought 3D wasn't ready, so all the original design was for quality 2D games with 3D along the lines of the 32x. Then the PlayStation turned up. Time was ticking and Sega knew the Saturn needed a 3D boost, and shoved basically an extra CPU in there to deal with the PS1 rivalling (ish) 3D. The result is an architectural nightmare that was a bitch to get working by 3rd party devs... upshot = horrible to emulate.
Edit: Ninja'd by TecX, ouch!

Simple. The Saturn's hardware is a mess and uses an early form of dual CPUs.
Oh, so the 32x didn't have dual chips? For some reason that's what I assumed. It all makes sense now! thx

EDIT: @TecXero According to the all-knowing internet, the 32x uses the same two Hitachi SH-2 chips, so they both were dual CPUs. I wonder what the problem is with emulation then....perhaps the two VDP1 and VDP2 video processors?

Yeah, it did. The 32x is still a bit of a pain to emulate, just not to that degree. Mightymuffy gave a decent enough explanation. If you want to get into the details of it, it's been explained plenty of times before, so Google will serve fine there.

I think some kind of bug has recently been introduced. I also have noticed strange pauses during 'transition' phases, such as when loading Mario Bros. 3 itself. It recovers to full speed right afterwards. It's almost like it's 'loading', except it can't be because the full game is loaded into RAM.

This is using an N3DS.
This is still a problem on the latest cia build of CatSFC (10-22-2015).

Performance on certain cores has gone up on the newest nightly, but there's a big issue now - and its being widely reported on neogaf and reddit homebrew threads.

loading a ROM now takes a hell of a long time - significantly more so than before, and there are weird freezes and stuttering during load at the start of games such as Super Metroid and Mario All Stars. I've checked it, and the issue is there for me too on the 21st and 22nd nightlies, but not on any before that.

So a little update not sure if it matters but mbga / 2015-10-18_RetroArch crashes hard when saving in the battle factory on pokemon emerald, maybe there's too much information to save
