Hardware Buying a N3DS?

Hey, i've been in the O3DS club for too long now, it's time to upgrade

I was wondering, what Firmware would it have if I bought one new from like Amazon or something?
What is the highest it can go? Because if I get a 9.3 one i'll just bang my head on the wall

Do you mean N3DS's come with 9.4? Cos that would be a bit annoying.

You'll need to be able to check the serial number to use the thread linked though, which will be difficult if you're ordering online. But it's the only way to be sure you're getting 9.0/9.2 firmware, unless you buy one used and ask the seller to check the firmware, or you buy one from eBay or similar that has the version listed.

I don't think there are any with 9.3 on them. Only 9.0/9.2 or 9.4 and above

I just assumed most N3DS's would come with 9.0 or something.

You'll have to ask them if they can open the box so you can look at the console. I don't think the serial number is printed on the outside of the boxes. At least the boxes aren't sealed, so you'll have an easier time finding a store willing to open the box.
Edit: Seems like they print them on the boxes in US, but not in other regions. That simplifies things.

Pretty hefty premium though. But at least it's guaranteed hackable and you can get it with CFW preinstalled at no additional charge. I would only buy that as a last resort if you can't find any hackable ones by other means.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm looking to buy a 3ds. Been searching for an answer but can a new 3ds/2ds can be hacked right out of the box? I going to check out some n3ds in a bit. From what I have been reading, you need the browser installed to get the hacks running.

It's really hard to find an N3DS with 9.2 or below nowdays. I was really lucky i found someone who bought an N3DS on the release date but he didn't open it yet.

I have a friend that works at a retail shop. He's letting check their inventory to see if they have an exploitable n3ds. If not, I can a 2ds or o3ds at Wal-mart. They have them on clearance but rather get a n3ds. But my question is, with a new system, do they come with a browser so I can get a CFW on it? Or do I need to buy CN or a GW?

If it's a N3DS why wouldn't it have the browser. wasn't that realeased in one of the first updates?

I thought CN requires browser. Also, only the japan N3DSes can have firmware 8.1 which doesn't have a browser.

Yes, new systems have the browser. It's a built-in function.

All o3ds, n3ds and 2dses come with the browser. Only the o3ds 1.0.0 and n3ds 8.1J doesn't come with the browser.

If you see CN for a low price, buy it. If it cost more than $50 then don't. You can get CFW with just the browser nowdays!

CN is no longer needed or really that useful at all since there's browserhax, oothax, themehax... Browserhax is especially important there since it's the one you will have to use to install any of the others.
