Hacking Cubic Ninja fails in every way on my 9.0.0-20U New3DS

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone could help find a solution to this problem;

I have a new new3DSXL on 9.0.0-20U firmware, and a US copy of cubic ninja (LNA-CTR-AQNE-USA on cart).

I am able to install the ninjahax 2.1 exploit to the cubic ninja cart, and it successfully boots the homebrew launcher which lists the homebrews that I have placed on the SD card.

If I try to launch any homebrew though, the screen just freezes on the homebrew launcher and I have to hold the power button down for like 15+ seconds to turn the console off.

So I also tried using the gateway cubic ninja code after clearing the cart's save, in order to back up my NAND or formart emuNAND. Every time I scan the gateway qr code I get the "plz wait" screen, then the message about installing the exploit, then on the same screen it says "installing exploit failed 00000005 c86044cd".

I have tried everything I can. I have formatted the SD card, used different SD cards (all genuine), tried different sources for the files I place on the SD card, tried formatting the 3DS in system settings, tried clearing the cubic ninja save, and many combinations of these things. Nothing I do will allow me to boot the gateway menu or actually launch anything from the homebrew launcher.

I have spent time googling this problem, and found somebody who claimed to have fixed their issue: http://www.maxconsole.com/maxcon_fo...r-Installing-Exploit-Failed-00000005-c86044cd

I have followed their advice, but it is very brief and doesn't totally make sense. They keep referring to "going into system settings, data management, and clearing memory". I have no idea what they are trying to talk about here, but I've tried deleting extra data.

I don't know what to do. I can't even find older versions of ninjhax to try, but I doubt that would help.

If anyone has any ideas or solutions, I would be extremely grateful as I currently cannot seem to fix this myself.

I don't see why you'd try Ninjhax 2.0 or 2.1 when 1.1 is still on smea's website. That's the only version of Ninjhax that has full kernel access.

Google "Ninjhax 1" and it should be the very first link. Sometimes it takes a while to load smea's website. Then select N3DS or O3DS depending on your system. Afterwards, select your proper firmware. Then choose your region (in your case, 'U'). Make sure you install the 3dsx file from that webpage along with the 3ds folder. Probably best if you format your SD before all this. Afterwards, scan the QR code and give it a few seconds to a minute to load. If after a minute it didn't load, try it again. Sometimes it's a little janky. Post results here if it did or didn't work.

I see. I was trying to find ninjhax 1.1 but when I saw his website it looked almost the same as the 2.1 website so I didn't realize the differences. Thanks, hopefully with ninjhax 1.1 I will at least be able to boot pasta to install a cubic ninja .cia to boot the gateway launcher.

Are you using a class 10 as card? Brand? Size? Ect.
The gateway exploit will only work with ninjhax 1 or 1.1 im pretty sure.

I originally tested with the one that came in the n3DS - a class 4, 4GB Toshiba. I replaced it with my own 32GB class 10 sandisk purchased from a retail store.

I did make an error in trying to use ninjhax 2.1, but I don't think the version of ninjhax I had used previously would affect the gateway exploit after I wiped the cartridge's save so I have yet to see if to can fix the gateway launcher issue or not. I read in another thread that the .cia of cubic ninja will work though so that should be fine as a backup plan if the gw launcher still won't work after I try ninjhax 1.1

Anyways I'm just copying the 1.1 files over now so hopefully it all works fine from there on.

edit: yeah, homebrew is working properly now. Thanks, sorry I didn't realize the differences.

edit2: In case anyone ever has the same issue with the gateway launcher and finds this thread; You need to restore the Cubic Ninja cart to factory condition by using SaveDataFiler.

You can just reset Cubic Ninja's save file by holding L+R+X+Y at the main menu of the game. No need to use SDF.

Yes, but that doesn't actually return the cart to factory condition, it leaves behind the payload.bin which stops the gw launcher from working. SDF does need to be used in order to fix this issue.

Last thing you need to know before you dive in - if you're going to use emuNAND (and I assume you are) make sure you install FBI as a cia and DEVmenu as a cia on your linked SysNAND. Afterwards, unlink them by removing your SD card and deleting/formatting sysNAND on the N3DS. Reinsert the SD card and you should be golden. You'll be able to install CIAs on emuNAND and install BigBlueMenu which is a cleaner tool than DEVmenu (use DEVmenu to install it on emuNAND).

This is just a common mistake most (myself included) make when using gateway to create emuNAND then unlink them immediately - you're left with the inability to install anything until repeating the whole process. Also, after you get everything set up the way you like, if you install CN as a cia on emuNAND, you can remove the 1.1 3dsx file and replace it with the 2.1 as it IS backwards compatible, thereby giving you Ninjhax on sysNAND (1.1 on 9.0U and if you updated to 9.5U on emuNAND, Ninjhax 2.1).
