I tried this via cafiine and updated my 3.0 mk8 to 4.0 and it would not let me go online. I believe the latest version is 4.1 for mario kart 8 .(Someone with it updated can correct me.)

The thing is that Cafiine can't replace vol/code. You'd need to load the updated RPX to go online most likely, and also to load any further updates for Smash in case people are curious.

I just tried to update Super Smash Bros. from 1.0.7 to 1.1.0 and yes, the RPX is still the same (but file replacement in other folders works fine) and the game goes weird ( http://i.imgur.com/NCxGnfJ.jpg XD ), do you have any idea on how to replace files in the "code" folder ?

The access to the code folder is denied by the system. But I think the .rpx (executable) can be found in the ram (like with the .dol of wii and gcn games)

Replacing the RPX or its associated libraries would require patching the loader to get stuff over the network, just like we do for the FS functions in coreinit. Certainly doable, but nobody seems to have tried yet.

You'd need a obj -> BFRES converter, which exists but won't be released. So no, a custom track isn't a possibility yet for the average user.
What's the reasoning behind this? This seems like it's holding back the MK8 Custom Track community needlessly. If an importer already exists, why not releases it? I mean, I'm sure someone else will make one soon, but it just seems unnecessary to make us wait an unknown amount of time until another converter is made. Some sort of explanation would be greatly appreciated.

So not only needlessly holding back the browser exploit, but they're needlessly holding back this converter too?

WTH is going on with the Wii U Scene?! I actually miss the Wii Scene.

The only reason I'm on 5.4.0 was because I was told that it was safe to update

That pisses me off too. Obviously, 5.4 isn't safe as they're needlessly holding back the browser exploit. It would have been better if they didn't release the kernel exploit.

inb4 "they claim they didn't say it was safe".

Before anyone tells me I shouldn't have updated, I got ninja'd by a network IP change. I'm now using my router's parental controls to block updates.

Welcome to the club. The only reason I'm on 5.4.0 was because I was told that it was safe to update, or else I'd still be on 5.3.2. Guess I should have been a bit more hesitant towards updating.

I too fell victim to the initial "safe to update news" and figured what the hell, may as well get my last smash DLC before the hack releases. Nope lol. Oh well, It's not like it's gone forever, it will eventually happen. They are just waiting until the right time.

I don't want to sound rude, but you should have used this method first ;)

Why don't you actually ask for the reasoning before getting needlessly angry at people? Maybe it's not in a very usable state yet?

Once again, maybe it's not in a usable state yet? Plus there's a difference between being "safe to update" (it is exploitable) and saying you should update (almost never). And why wouldn't we release the kernel exploit? It was already patched, we shouldn't be "needlessly holding back" the exploit.

They are hardly "needlessly holding back the browser exploit". They haven't released it yet because it wasn't patched and is one of the only ways, if not the only way of currently getting userland access on 5.5.
Why should they kill all chances of running homebrew on later firmwares? So you can run a few cheats right now?
They said they will release the exploit later if it gets patched by Nintendo in a future update, they find a way to spoof the firmware to access the eshop/updates, or there is a way to run emunand. Just be patient and stop bitching. You will have your exploit sooner or later; my guess is sooner.

I'm not really pissed off more than I am bummed that support wasn't released immediately, however, MN1's reasoning,
it's not in a very usable state yet
is completely valid - don't get me wrong. It's a bad idea to release software that isn't in a usable state because you'll have people that bitch that it isn't working when they expect it to, and it just creates more headaches for those that worked on it in the first place.

I was initially going to ask why 5.4.0 wasn't worked on more than it was considering it's been out for some time, but as I was starting to write this post, I realized that most of the time was probably put towards refining the exploit on already-usable firmware versions (3.X to 5.3.2). Heck, it's seen enough improvements since it was initially released just a few days ago to the point that it's much more stable and launches safely in far less attempts. If anything, we're at the advantage because we don't have to go through the growing pains that everyone else is. At the same time though, it would be really nice to be able to join in the efforts, but since it isn't in a usable state, there's not much point as to ask for support - we'll have to wait until it's finished, however long that takes (Which probably won't be long since there's a lot of community involvement at this point allowing MN1 and co. to work on finishing up 5.4.0's entrypoint while the community uses the other firmware versions and adds refinements to it).

On the flip side though, if 5.4.0 has been out for so long, I am kinda surprised that more work hadn't been done to somewhat finalize to the point that it can be used, even if it's a little buggy. I'll continue to be patient. I don't intend on updating this time, so I know that at least my patience will be rewarded. Working on something like this is no easy feat I'm well aware, so to bite at the hands that feed you is a terrible idea right now.

In addition, @Marionumber1, thank you for providing a reason as to why it's not supported yet. It's really the only question that I had, but I wasn't really wanting to ask about it because I'd probably come across as really rude if I tried to phrase it in my frame of mind.
