I have a single external 300 gb hdd partitioned half as ntfs for my Wii games and the other half as fat32 for gc games via this loader and nintendont.

Question is, under hard drive settings, what do "game/install partition", "multiple partition", "game split size" and "install partitions" mean? Not sure what settings to use for each in my setup.

Any help would be appreciated.

It seems one of the more recent updates has an issue with Nintendont. When launching a game through USB Loader GX, sometimes it will crash on the Nintendont screen. It doesn't show any of the loading text, just the information in the top left, the controls in the top right, and the Nintendont background. A hard restart fixes it, but it seems the issue is most common if I try it after exiting out of something beforehand. Nintendont seems to work fine if I run it through Homebrew Channel.
I'm having this issue too with USB Loader GX v1256-1257 + Nintendont v3.371. Same as you describe: information on top left and right, but the loading text doesn't show up and the game never starts.
USB Loader GX v1255 + Nintendont v3.371 works fine.

You will need a cIOS installed that allows loading from USB drives.

Anyone have any thoughts on my questions above?

if you need to install the cIOS, you can use modmii (PC apps that will generate a guide and download needed files), or use the cIOS installer homebrew :
For Wii
For vWii (on WiiU)

run the installer, select slot249, d2x v8, base 56, version 21008. install, exit, done ;)

herkenmij as TecXero stated you will need a cIOS. I was not considering installing a cIOS until Cyan provided the simple instructions. See his post above.

Game/Install Partition is for selecting the partition used for Wii backups. Multiple Partitions is for if you have Wii games stored in more than one partition. Game Split Size is for how you want the wbfs file split up (mostly for if you're running the backup from a FAT32 partition). Install Partitions is for selecting what parts of the game disc you want dumped.

I have a Wii U and I barely ever touch it, most of my gaming I spend on the regular Wii even watching movies and such, it's awesome if you know how to use it ;)

My friend has Wii U and Wii well he uses both but vWii most of the time. And on Wii U mode he always uses the wiimote. Long live Wii :)

See quote above. For the time being until this is fixed you may have to use an older version of USB loader gx v1255 to use the latest nintendont.

I like to use the list view. The issue I am having is that the cover images don't always display. Anyone else have this issue?

My games are on a USB HDD while the Images are on the sd card. All images have been downloaded via the built in updater.

Plus I have noticed that when I select a game in list it takes 5 or so seconds before the spinning disc screen appears. Something seems to be slow.. I have about 20 Wii games.

EDIT: video link added. This is what I am seeing. https://www.dropbox.com/s/5vvhl3ps8k7cte4/2015-08-24 16.21.06.mov?dl=0

EDIT: looks like it may have been a faulty microsd card adapter. The lock slider was causing issues.

What is the desired setting for "install partitions"? Game only? Not sure what the all refer to.

Use "remove update" rather than "game only." Some games (like Smash Bros) don't work right without the "other" partition there.

The update partition does nothing except update the wii firmware if it is too old..
It is up to you to leave it or not, but if you are already on 4.3 or use vwii, it is definitely worth deleting it to save space.
