I know this question has been asked before but I don't believe a detailed explanation was ever provided as to why.

So the experts have RE'd Gateways Launcher, correct? May someone expand on the details?

Please try to keep the comments clean ._. Looking for mature answers, though I guess that shouldn't always be expected xD

Besides being a dongle for running gateway's firmware, I have a feeling the gateway cartridge is necessary for tricking the 3DS into thinking a valid game is in the slot. Since their multi-rom menu code is dependent on interactions with the gateway hardware to function, it wouldn't make much sense to reverse engineer and rip it.

Whether or not it's possible to re-route the firmware to read from the SD slot on the 3DS itself instead of cartridges, I'm not familiar enough with the inner workings to know... emucart would be a nifty feature though :P

I should totally ask that! xP Maybe if I'm nice enough, the woman with the red fingernails will give me a BJ, too :)
A handjob might be the most accurate option :creep:

Copying the GUI look wouldn't be that difficult. Some features it has may be difficult/impossible though.
(stable downgrading, cci loading for sure)

Yeah, the multirom menu specifically would be very difficult.

myself and slashmolder have been using their menu in our cfw stuff on and off since.. april(may?) of last year. so we could use the gw card with the cfw, etc. it's certainly possible to use without their launcher. their arm9 stuff would need a fair amount of work to load right from an sd card, though.

From my little knowledge and research, "emucart" would require another partition on the SD card, and is a pain in the ass to make code to emulate a card read form the SD, with current CFW ther is literally no interest in making an emucart, and it isn't user friendly, because users who already have an emunand partition need to backup all the data over to create the second partition, and keep the emuNAND there, AAND there will be a limit size to the "emucart" partition from scratch, if your SD ever fragments itself, there are zero chances to expand it's size freely.

So is a no dice for everyone, but some fun for some devs ;).

You could probably do it too if you're up for the task of reverse-engineering Gateway's software. I mean, he did it so it is possible.

Yeah, that's the sort of thing that I'd seriously get fatigued about tbh. I get mentally strained, easily >.<

I was just asking because instead of people switching their CFW's between GW and RX and whatever, it would be more convinient to have a multirom menu, no?

I'd probably consider buying a GW card if CFW's supported it :P No CIA install times, no need to inject FBI etc.

Well, I can definitely see the pros of having something that's like the lovechild of Gateway and RX or Cakes or something with debugging capabilities. You can take screenshots of ROMs that are running on your Gateway, for instance.

It's already possible with the CIA of NTR 3.0
