So it shows a removal disk? What happens if you click on it to try and access it? Does it ask to format then?
Try using win32disk manager to dump a copy of the nand and check the byte count

No it seems inactive and when i try to access there is a message like there is not a drive connected. I tried win32disk manager and does not show any drive letter

Well you fucked up somewhere down the line, OR your SD reader is incompatible. Check your circuit, and what SD reader are you using

It is compatible. Its this http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Flash-Memory-Reader-TS-RDP8K/dp/B001NS0OZ4. I took it because of this list https://gbatemp.net/threads/n3ds-nand-backup-possible-i-hope.381506/

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

The problem is that shows 2 drive letters and have no access to neither of them

Hello, I have an o3ds XL hard modded, some time ago I modded it with the tipical 1x mode using a DIY microUSB to MMC adapter, and now I wanted to upgrade the mod to the 4x mode using a microSD to USB adapter, just like this tutorial https://gbatemp.net/threads/3ds-xl-nand-access-via-usb-mod.363245/, I used this little microSD adapter http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6525685752.html?orderId=66105059606802. While I was solding each pinout to the adapter, I was testing If the console boot up, it was all fine until I solder dat0 pinout, the console didn't boot up, only a black screen, and when I solder GND to the adapter, it boot up with a blue screen with the tipical errocode 00F800FE ... 00000200, if I desolder those pinouts from the microSD adapter, the console boot up normal again, I tried to solder all pinout to the adapter, including CMD and CLK (which may cause problems to boot up in the tutorial) and testing to connecting to my PC with a USB cable, and my PC detected the emmc inmediatly and even I made a nand backup with win32diskimager at 18mb/s speed. I don't know what is causing problems with those 4 pins (dat0, GND, CMD and CLK), and I don't want to put 4 switches to solve it.

here a picture of the microSD adapter I use

The only way TO solve it IS the switches.
Why else would they be used in the mod?

Answer: Because the switches "switch" the lines to say who is controlling what, who is connected to where. You can't have all the lines connected to both devices at the same time (eMMC and reader), it has to be one or the other, that's where the switches come into play, switch one way, it disconnects ("whatever lines") from one device and connects to the other and vice versa.

I know, I was expecting to use only 2 switches (CMD & CLK) like the tutorial, but I didn't expect that dat0 and GND didn't work to :(

Anyone know where I can get some nice small 4 pin connectors in the UK? I can't seem to find anything at a decent price.

@hundshamer Similar to the above question, could you divulge what to search for? for Micro JST connector pairs? Is there a size I should add to my search terms? (I think most say 1.25mm or something) Are they commonly sold with male/female bits together or do you have to buy the females separate?
I'm kinda fed up with microusb. I did the mod, got it working. did a test read and then wrote my original dump (just out of the box) to it. Then I went to disconnect and my glue job on the female bit wasnt good enough... tried being gentle and the male was stuck pretty good in the female, so I pulled harder... and out came the port.
Redid it, this time with routed wires, and while soldering to the musb pins was easier this time, the mod isn't working. I'm guessing I need a smaller wire or something to avoid bridges, but as it is it's just really frustrating, and I'd like to give what you use a shot.
my SD adapter is covered in hotglue too, but I'm sure I can heat it enough to get it off.

But when I go to search for micro JST 4pin, lots of other results come up. Some I'm not sure if they come with 10 males and 10 females or if the female is just pictured to show what the thing connects to.
So knowing what you searched for would be nice.
I'd just send this to you, but I already invested in an iron, tips, solder, wire cutters, flux pens, etc. It'd be a real waste to have someone else do it at this point.

So here's my problem:
I've bricked my O3DSXL this morning, trying to update from 8.1 to 9.2 via rxTools (didn't read that now rxTools had FiRMLAUNCH...).
So after soldering DAT0, CMD, CLK, GND cables to the board and connecting those to a microSD reader and injecting that to the PC, there was the famous blue screen (BOOTROM 8046). The problem is that no drive was detected.
I'm using my MacBook Pro Retina's internal SD card reader, is that by any chance one of those incompatible readers, or did I mess up on the soldering process?
PS: When turning on the 3DS with the SD card disconnected the screen stays black (typical of a brick), so I think I did OK on the solder points.

Most likely the reader. Get a compatible one, then you'll know for sure if it's the reader or the soldering

It was the reader.
Thanks anyway.
Hey, I got a MBPr as well. Summer 2012 model. So I'll need to purchase an external SD card reader for this to function, the internal slot won't recognize it?
Also, on OS X, what do you use for reading/writing NAND? I can't imagine you use it like a regular SD card, any tools you can recommend?
