Ok so basically my sister was using my Animal Crossing 3DS to play Rhythm Tengoku The Best Plus through installed CIA, and she dropped it and the top screen is basically done for. So I tried to put the SD from the AC 3DS into my original black 3DS and boot it, but it wouldn't boot. So I did all of this stuff and then I decided to try and extract the save from the AC 3DS with SaveDataFiler but when I launched Rhythm Tengoku it said something about how it couldn't be launched and to redownload from the eShop. Soo I don't think I can get it from there but I have the save files backed up on my computer.

So basically I'm asking either if I could get the Rhythm Tengoku to work on the Animal Crossing 3DS again, or if there's a way to install the raw save that was on the SD card onto the original black 3DS. Thank you!! Sorry if this is the wrong section.

Also I can't get back onto emunand on the Animal Crossing 3DS, the screen just stays black. If I could fix that maybe I can still extract the save even though the game won't launch?

An emuNand is tied to the console it's created on (the hardware ID is used in the encryption), so that is why it wouldn't work on your original black 3DS. I don't know if trying to boot it on another system can somehow "damage" the emuNand, but it might be worth trying to restore a backup of the emuNand to the card. If the backup was made before Rhythm Tengoku was installed, you might have to reinstall it to get it to work. As far as I know, installing won't delete the data files, but it might be a good idea to back them up first.

I haven't messed much with SaveDataFiler or trying to transfer saves, but I would think you wouldn't have to run Rhythm Tengoku to do it. You'd just run SDF to extract the save, copy the files to the other system's SD card, and use SDF to inject the save... Or are you running into the error after this process?

You may also want to look into purchasing a replacement top screen, since it'd be cheaper than buying a whole new unit. If the housing is broken, you can get replacements for those as well. Disassembly can be a bit of a pain, but it's not the worst thing I've ever taken apart. (Though, I haven't put it back together yet, the replacement housing part I ordered arrived badly damaged...)

Thank you for the response! So I realized I might not have to run Rhythm Tengoku to extract the save already. The problem was that since my top screen is like gone I couldn't choose the bigbluemenu to install the savedatafiler because I couldn't see it, so I looked for another way, and then I can't boot into emunand anymore so now I can't do that.

How does one restore from a backup? The only backup I have is the contents of the SD card before it stopped working. I thought it would work to just place them on the card when I wanted to use them again but I guess not???? I just get a black screen when booting into emunand (am trying it right now)... I'm not sure what the error could be right now.

There's lots of guides on how to get out of the black screen and restore game saves but literally none of them mention .cia games. Why is this???

You could temporarily remove all .3ds files other than BigBlueMenu from your Gateway card (I'm kind of assuming you're using one because you mentioned needing the top screen to select SaveDataFiler, but if you're using something else like rxTools, please let me know), then you would know the only file is that, and so you could blindly select it. But first, we'll need to get your emuNand working again.

To make a backup, generally you would use something like EmuNand Tool ( https://gbatemp.net/threads/emunand-tool-release-and-support-thread.359239/ ) to back up the emuNand partition. This is different than the FAT32 partition, which contains the files you see when you access the card with the computer normally. If you didn't specifically back up the emuNand partition somehow, you might be a bit out of luck. I'm still not sure what would cause the emuNand to "break" just by attempting to boot it with another 3DS, so I don't know if it's possible to manually repair it somehow. Did anything else happen before it stopped working, like if you updated it past 9.5 for a New 3DS? Or updated it to 9.9 on an Old 3DS but are not using the most recent Gateway launcher?
