I just got a new DSTWO, and I'm having some problems. I have in it a new Kingston class 4 32 gig SD which I formatted with SD Formatter as instructed in the setup FAQ in this forum.

1) Both TempGBA and CATSFC are so choppy as to make them completely unplayable. Is there some solution?

2) DS game loading is extraordinarily slow, and I mean in-game loading times. I have an EZFlash Vi, and loading is much much faster on that. The EZF has a Sony class 4 16 gig SD in it if that means anything.

3) I've got the GameYob emulator, but I can't find the plugin files to put it on the main menu. Are these available somewhere?

Okay, I found this updater in another thread that solved 1: http://down.supercard.sc/download/dstwo/Firmware/ds2_update_20150703.zip

It didn't solve 2, though. It's really bothersome. There are also slowdowns in the DS Pokémon games, particularly when entering/leaving a city or a house, but also sometimes when just walking through a town.

I'll add couple of new problems now! :(

4) When I go to Save States in CATSFC or in TempGBA, the emulator freezes and I have to reset.

5) There's just the tiniest response lag in TempGBA, but it's enough to make the GBA Rhythm Tengoku basically impossible. Is there any way to fix that?

Did you buy one of the new batches of DSTwo that just came out? I have the same problem with choppiness and have tried ~7 different micro sd cards now. You can test if a sd card is fast enough by loading Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and watching the intro video. If it isn't working right it drops frames/audio messes up/etc.

I wonder if these all are plagued with some sort of issue.

1, a very high speed micro sd card will help a lot but can't do miracles, even with a class 10 they are kinda sloppy... specially since they run at 30 fps and not at 60 like a gba game, there is no much you can do...

2 that is weird... can also be caused by the slow card... use this to check its speed and if the micro sd is a fake http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/H2testw.shtml

3 the plugin files are not special\different, you just have to put a icon picture and a ini file and the emulator on the plugins folder, you can use the icon and the ini (or xml ) file provided here http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/DSTwo_Plugin just replace the emulator fine with the new one you got

5, like i told you above there is not much you can do.. the emulator works for most games especially pokemon, but games that require presise timing you need to get a real gba cart...

gonna answer to first one, you can use the bottom left button to find options whcih you can delete\copy\move files around and also optiom to hide or show all files

there is also file manager homebrews, i think you can use moonshell for file management but i am not so sure, if i want to quickly delete something i use the dstwo menu

All of my sd cards were bought directly from Amazon personally. I tested my class 10 16GB that works with Acekard/Gateway blue and it's over 10MB/s write and 30MB/s read so I don't think it's the sd card unless DSTwo absolutely hates Sandisk cards.

Ugh, the intro movie for Dawn of Sorrow looks like crap.

Sampson, do you have this problem with all SD cards you've tried, or just some of them?

Migles, do you have Dawn of Sorrow on your card? Can I trouble you to look at the little movie and see if it's choppy? Don't start the game, just boot it up and wait a second and the movie will start.

regnad I have this problem with every single micro sd card I have. They're all Sandisk brand though so I'm not sure if it's specific to that or not. I'm hoping to pick up a Samsung UXF-1 or whatever class card when Amazon Prime day starts tomorrow to test.

Another thing that's interesting is that there's no way to run EOS 1.11 on the card but I'm not sure if that's how every single upgraded card works. I tried to force a downgrade to a previous firmware but was unable to get EOS 1.12 to see the old update.

i will test it, give me a minute

I just tested it on my EZFlash Vi. Runs fine on that. After playing my DSTwo all day, it really strikes me how fast everything boots up and runs.

Sampson: Mine is a Kingston 32gig class 4. The EZFlash has a Sony 16gig class 4.

Migles: Which EOS are you running?

did you messed up the versions? 1.12 will still show up with a version number 1.11

Don't start the game. At the menu, just wait a moment, and the movie automatically begins if you do nothing. It'll be obvious when you see it.

You can also press "B" at the main menu to play the movie. Yes, 1.11 shows as the EOS version however if I try to use DSTWO v1.11_2012_1212(2012-12-24) I get an error that it cannot find system files. The only set I can get to work on my card is DSTWO_v1.12_2015_0622_eng

For reference, for whatever reason, the DSTwo doesn't tend to cope well with class 4 MicroSD cards. While most other flash carts seem to operate fine with it, extra features of the DSTwo or whatever must require faster card speeds. Most people recommend getting a class 10 from a brand like Sandisk or Transcend.

did you try to put the old files and use that update over them?
i know there is a update that requires the previous version...
i did get confused on the website because of that reason..

Sampson has tried a Sandisk class 10 and experienced the same problems, right?

Is there a way to turn off these extra features?

Do you have a class 10 in yours, Nathan Drake? Have you experienced these slowdowns with class 4?

Honestly, I think there might be something wrong with his DSTwo in general. That or his particular Sandisk cards may have issues with the DSTwo (I have no idea how it handles Ultra variants and such as compared to a regular old class 10 card). I don't own a DSTwo personally, but slowdowns were formally a somewhat prevalent issue with the card, basically always solved by investing in a class 10 over the class 4 cards that always get sold by flash cart resellers.

Edit: Especially your slow game loading to me is indicative of the microSD card being too slow.

i have a class 10 kingston one
you can turn off some features by pressing X when you highlight the game, thjere is the patch options, however in some cases games get even slower..
just to check it i disabled the patches for testing right now, and it is really really slow... (even the audio skips)
if you guys give me a moment i can test with a class 2 card to see if the card can really make a difference

video of playing normal, sorry for the crappy nokia camera http://filetrip.net/dl?e3MWv3ewGl

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

just tested with a class 2 card, i can't say 100% its the card speed but it really made a huge differnce, the movie is really bad now

i can't say for 100% because i can't clean that micro sd card, it can be caused by fragmentation and the fact its full of other files and its not formated...

i tell you what, i will see if i find another sd card i can test to double check it

edit: disabled the patches on the class 2 sd card, game doesn't even boot

I tried formatting yesterday per your suggestion and the issues still persisted on my card.

I've tried 5 class 4 and 2 class 10 micro sd cards on mine. The class 10 and 2 class 4 were verified to work on other DS flash carts and various other flash carts (including MSU-1 on SD2SNES which is bandwidth-intensive) so I'm not sure if it's the sd cards or what bandwidth the DSTwo is expecting from the card to test/target.

i am gonna provide you the same setup i got.

don't forget to use sda\panasonic formatter
(format adjustment ON, full erase, overwrite)

http://filetrip.net/dl?tuium8DN98
then unzip the folder i provided to your card, try the game with it
that folder is what exactly i have on my dstwo.. i don't remember what i did, i downloaded the last version then i think i applied the update but i got confused which update was more recent so i leaved it that way and so far so good
