I'm gonna take this topic seriously, because a few of my friends came out to me; and most of them were thrown out of their house with bruises. Even if its on the EOF, lets take this shit seriously..
I am a straight individual, a religious person--who supports gay rights. They've been discriminated enough; and even if religion is against it; they would also be against hatred. Homosexuals being hated; killed; beaten; etc, which kind of God would want that on his children?

Never take religion into any discussion about gay rights. Cherry picking from any book be it old or new is not how it should go. Also depending on interpretation, you can say either or with the books from most of the religions in the world, be it Islam, Christianity or Hinduism.

ps. Gay rights are something you don't actually lose anything by allowing them compared to say, taxing bad habits such as smoking, where the people who smoke lose and the people who don't smoke, win. It's like saying giving everyone in the US equal rights regardless of skin color made everyone suddenly black. Seriously.

I agree with Qtis, but I brought it in because people use that to explain WHY they are against it, and pretty much bash up the whole religion. Not all Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims are against homos. Just like not all of them are evil.

I agree as there is racism and sexism in every culture.

That's not what I intended to mean, just used it as short for homosexuals on my iPad.. And don't generalize that's what Islam promotes; I'm a Muslim that doesn't believe in that. Edit: and before you quote the Quran via an online source; don't do that. How about an actual hard book English translation? What's on the internet isn't really translated correctly. It's made from people that are islamophobics.

^^This, and so much this. I was very anti-gay-rights until the Iowa Methodist Annual Conference this year, when I kind of sort of had a "God moment" and realised basically what ComeTurismO just said.

Also, for any Christians (or Muslims, Jews, or Buddhists, as they are highlighted in this book as well) that are struggling with this topic as well as quite a few others, you should check out a book called "When Christians Get it Wrong" by Adam Hamilton (he was the guest speaker at the conference and I read a few of his books)
