And here is where you are wrong, if he owns a Sky3ds card he can download the cubic ninja rom and use that as a regular cubic ninja game to use the exploit, then he can and use a out-of-region rom next to it and play it like a regular out of region game.
Touche, forgot about the Sky3DS. But he cant use any softmods, which he did ask about

long time lurker here just diving into the magical world of gateway 3ds!

quick question: my 3DS has firmware 2.2.0-E and I know I need to be on 4.x to use Gateway. I've been trying to figure out, without success, whether I can do this upgrade without a retail cart. So far the only reference I have found is in the GBATemp wiki:

http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/3DS_Ha...sion_is_below_4.5.0.2C_how_can_I_update_it.3F

the relevant bit:

Using a game's ROM bundled with System update v4.5.0 and with Gateway v1.0 (which doesn't prevent the required System version checking). It works on System version v4.1.0 to v4.4.0.

my question is: can anyone give me more details on how to do this, or another method to upgrade the firmware? how do I know if my gateway has v1.0? Thank you :)

I have a tutorial on how to do it:

1) Go to gamestop
2) Buy an used game with 4.x update
3) Update your 3ds
4) Return the game before 7 days.
5) ???
6) Profit

I've got 4.5 o3DS with locked browser (can't access it without updating). I installed rxTools using my friend's gateway blue card. Is there any way i can unlock my browser with my setup? All i can think of is using sysupdater to update my sysNand. Or should i just get generic R4 and dont bother with browser exploits?

Sysupdate to update your firmware

What is a Linked emuNAND, and how is that achieved (like, how do WE do it...)?

What are the benefits of emuNAND?

How do we stop the system update notifications without doing anything to the WiFi?

Why has no one besides Gateway put out an emuNAND for the N3DS? Or has someone done it and I'm a blind POS... And if there is one, does it support updating to 9.8?

I have a Sky3DS with Ninjhax working (and can get the Gateway Launcher) and a DSTWO.

And yes, I know there's a search bar, but finding the exact wording and the thing I want can be hard. :)

Hello, I am purchasing a new Gateway 3DS and want to ask about SD cards..
1. which microSD card should I get for my Gateway? a 64GB card? How fast? I saw PNY is pretty cheap - should I pick a PNY from Amazon or pick up a SanDisk from BestBuy?
2. which SD card should I get for my 3DS? I got the first edition and all I have is a 2GB Toshiba. I've got a couple of Class 4 Centon SD card lying around - but I read from some threads that the faster the better for saves - is 32GB good? Or should I go smaller? (doesn't seem like I save that much if I go smaller) Same question as above - PNY or SanDisk?

Thanks!

Emunand is a 1GB partition on the SD card that emulates a firmware version, so you can have a 4.5 firmware version (sysnand) and emunand in 9.8 so you can play games that require firmware updates without updating your system.

When you format emunand all the stuff that you install/save it goes into the same folder that sysnand does, this is known as linked nands. To separate them you have to format your 3ds system nand while your SD card is out, so when you put your card in, the system nand will create a new folders where to install/save things, thus unliking them.

Gateway's emunand don't support 9.8 on N3DS, only O3DS, I think it supports emunand up to 9.5 as of now, I'm not completely sure you'll have to look it up.

Why has no one besides Gateway put out an emuNAND for the N3DS? Uhmmm... Cuz no one knows how to?

Quick Question: I am borrowing my friends copy of Ocarina of Time to get Gateway working on my "New 3DS", so will this wipe his saves (are they on the cartridge itself?), and if so, is there a way to restore them? I also have an old 3ds XL with Gateway installed so is there a way to backup and restore the saves from there? Thanks!

Use Save Data Filer

Sorry for the noobish question, but how exactly do I do that? Thanks I seriously appreciate it!!
Launch Save Data Filer, on the first tab you see scroll down and find your game [Shown as a game ID]
You can find the game ID HERE

So then you press Y on the game you want to backup. The backed up data will be on the third tab, where you can restore it anytime. You won't be able to tell what the backed up saves are since they're just numbers. But the last bit of the title ID is shown, type it into the search box in 3DS Essch

Thats how you do it with cias, not sure if its the same with carts

Hmm I see a "backup 3ds savegame" and "restore 3ds savegame" option on the Gateway launcher. I want to confirm with somebody that this will work for Ocarina of Time though first, and that the save for OOT is stored on the card itself.

I can confirm that the save is absolutely stored on the cart. Test it yourself. Remove your SD card and launch the cart

No OoT is one of those saves that can't be backed up since the save file is like 128 KB, and all Gateway compatible saves must be 512 MB. I tried it myself back then.
With NTR CFW you can use a BETTER cart save backup tool though, which will work for sure to backup the cart save to be used with Gateway.

I just found this thread and according to the one poster, you can use the Gateway backup/restore with OOT.

For save data filer, is it possible to use/change a save from a game from one region to another?

Is there any practical way to update a game in n3ds running Gateway emunand? It is possible through cia updates but the process requires to screw/unscrew the back cover every time which is inconvenient. I have installed MSET causing a way to transfer cias over wifi impossible. (No transfer data over wifi option) I wonder if there are other ways without opening the back cover.

EDIT: I found a way to get the cia updates without opening the back cover. Instead of going to System Setting in sysnand, go to emunand. MSET is not downgraded in emunand, so data transfer over wifi is possible.
