Well that basically is it. I came across a PS1 that audiophiles used to go nuts for and it works 100% right and I don't have a lot of options where to use it other than one modern made a year ago TV so the RCA is out. It's a fantastic tv and it's more an android tablet style panel so it games exceptionally well with no lag issues even with touchy stuff and I keep HDMI FPGA consoles/modded consoles on it. I do not want to chop the PS1.

I know a few years or so ago POUND had a cable for the PS1 that was powered and didn't add in display lag and just got the job done without compromises of like a cheap oveseas kit that lags and muds the visuals. Are they still the best option, or are there some others maybe I can read reviews up on amazon or whatever that might be better/comparable if they're still not the preferred choice?

I don't know if I'd ever collect for it again, not going to ravage ebay for sure as I'm fed up with that, but I do find things locally on occasion that are solid and it would be great to play it on the big screen. Thanks.

This is what I use on one of my PS1s: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MYVF61Y
IMO is is much better than the POUND version which I used to have. It also works on PS2 and supports RGB mode there.
In another I installed a PS1 Digital, which is not cheap in comparison and requires fine pitch soldering skills to DIY, else you have to pay an installer too.

If you believe you might get more old consoles with only analog video out then something like a Retrotink 2X Mini or Pro combined with high quality cables from the likes of HDRetrovision would be the most economic choice longterm.
If you're confident you're only ever going to have one old console like that then the Rad2x series of cables from Retro Gaming Cables are the highest quality option you can get, and they're not too expensive for the properly calibrated, and well built hardware.

Is your intention to use the PS1 as an audiophile grade cd player? Or to play PS1 games? If you're using it because it supposedly has a nice DAC in it, you want to use the RCA out. if you're just using it for PS1 games there was no point in seeking out the first model.

Based on OPs post, it seems the goal is an easy solution for a large flatscreen TV that doesn't involve any cutting/irreversible modding because it is a sought after model due to the audio.

In that case I'd just buy another PS1 for cheap rather than causing wear and tear on the laser of the SCPH-1001 from playing games on it. Or just go the emulation route.

If it's a USA or Japan model, I would highly recommend getting a RetroScaler 2x (do not pay anything more than even $40 for it) over any other option.

It's relatively cheap, upscales, and will work with composite, component and S-video. Just to warn, it's a supposed RetroTink 2x clone, so if you don't like that, don't buy it.

Obviously if you're balling on a budget, you may want to consider the cheap cables.

the only decent cheap one in the USA rn is $30 - so if the RetroScaler 2x is only $10 more that should be the cheapest play chosen by most people IMO.

If using this is going to require an extra cable and upscaler to be purchased, why not just simply go the emulation route? Would save you money, provide a greatly superior image, and save the laser on the "audiophile" SCPH-1001.

Sorry not sure how I missed out on replying on this but I get busy.

Thanks, bookmarked, next amazon order I may just have to do that. I don't need anything crazy, just something that won't introduce a problem. I can solder, but nothing fine enough that needs magnification or more higher capacity tools.

Never been a fan of that route, but never had a reason to either. I'm actually using a 2025 Roku android tablet style TV which I looked up before buying for its game mode performance and it's damn near modern laptop/phone standard whcih is good. Why, because I have a hidefnes kit in a top loader NES, a SuperNt, a MegaSG, an UltraHDMI installed N64(likely replaced with M64), and and analogue pocket docked on there (also a nes, snes, and pce mini.) The PS1 was the odd one out not having a solution and that TV only has HDMI ports, that's it. Anything else thats non-hacked and modded I have on a 2007~ era 14" Color Monitor which is PVM quality which the PS1 sits on along with a AV Famicom, SFC, non-tmss Genesis+32x combo, and a stock n64 too using an old school switcher box I found new old stock.

I go between either depending how I want to play and I don't feel a difference with the game mode on the new one so it's a no-issue if I can solve the issue of the best HDMI converter possible unlike that trash from the Wii era that lags ot hell and back while getting muddy too.

Just to play with whatever I find locally, not going to collect for it again, largely kept it just to play on the PVM style screen I have but would rather put it on the big screen which is why I asked. I didn't seek it out, someone sold me at the flea market it untested for $10 because they didn't have an RCA cable and thought it was proprietary and I was willing to risk it for parts as it looked immaculate (system, 2 controllers, oem power cable, and the sleeved demo disc that was clean too.) I wasn't going to argue.

Where are you seeing the 2x at $10 more ($40?) This says $80 if that's what you meant at least on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/BITFUNX-RetroScaler2x-HDMI-Converter-Pass-Through/dp/B0C6XP7FY4

I'd take that for sure and just swap old stuff if that's the case if I ever needed to.

It's on sale every now and again on AliExpress for $40-ish.

Just wait until the price drops due to a special timed event or something.

I'm in no rush @master801 do they have their own vendor on there or just some random and keep on top of it? Thanks.
Bitfunx and RetroScaler (I think that's what they're called? Regardless, they're the same company, just different brand names) have their own "official" stores (sellers).

I recommend just shopping around for the best price, and if this is your first time buying on AliExpress, only buy items listed as "Choice". It's like Amazon Prime where it's shipped from their own warehouses and not shipped from the seller directly.

You beat me to editing my last post.

There is a mega sale going right now, and with discounts I can apply I can get it shipped from within the US for the price of one from china over a few weeks on the slow boat for just 5 more which is fine by me. Thanks.

I've bought from them for an item or few every year for some time now, so I had some discounts and things I could tack on.

Since its the model with the RCA jacks on the rear, you could go RGB from the AV out port and pull the audio from the RCA jacks instead.

The component cable that BitFunx sells for the PS2? Accidentally found out it can pull the RGB signal from a PS1 using my GBS-C Pro.
