If I had a 4GB 3DS card with games on it is it safe to restore the NAND.bin? Even if I used it on another 3DS last year? The NAND backup is from the 3DS XL I want to restore.

And can I use the NAND.bin from my SD card I can't remember if it specifically was the NAND.bin backup I made a week or two ago... *This is what happens when 512 passes and somebody gives you an ounce of legal recreational trees my shortterm memory is shot like my 3DS' we're both in a purple haze*

As long as the NAND.bin is from the same console, you can restore it. There's always some risk involved with touching the NAND, I personally am very careful when it comes to that, but as long as the battery is charged the chances of something going wrong are small.
Edit: Make sure you are sober when you do it. :P

Ok and the NAND.bin I have is from a backup copy right? It would have to be? Your 3DS doesn't make a different NAND.bin that'll mess everything up right?

Well okay so if I thought I formatted my SD card why is my friends list showing up? LOL wtf did I do I mean I formatted it last night thru the 3DS and I tried formatting it on my computer. Somehow in my haze I've even managed to swap and be able to use information on my micro SD too I can even see 2 different Miis with 2 different friend codes wait here I am.

Friends list etc. isn't stored on the SD card unless you mean emuNAND.

IS there any finger print besides my untrustworthy memory to know for sure which 3DS my NAND.bin came from?

When you say "used it on another 3DS", what are you referring to? A nand image will ONLY work on the console it came from, none other. If you mean the card was used on another system, that's not a problem.

You might want to hold off on messing with things while impaired, then. Especially irreversible things like formatting systems and cards. Anyway, your friends list and quite a few other things are stored in the internal memory, rather than in files on the SD card. I'm not sure what you mean by "can see two different Miis with two different friend codes", so I can't provide additional help on this, I'm afraid.

To the best of my knowledge, no. If you had multiple systems, you should have marked the files a name that would let you know where they came from. (Mine include the name of the system owner and the date it was made, since I have three roommates.) Perhaps the timestamp of the file will help you remember?

Yeah I try, sometimes it feels like I'm going through a harddrive very other month. Anyways so everythings all squared away I can redownload AoT. I was surprised that I had enough open block on my SD card. Next thing is to see if I can pull up my old save files, or find cheats to get everything back unlocked. I'm glad GW is smart enough to make it impossible for frustrated/half-baked people getting trying to delete everything but at the same time it would be nice to be able to view what's on the other half of my SD card... Fingers crossed
