If they ever do that they will get many middle fingers to those who bought older iterations. They should be like Gateway and make one expensive ass cart and then simply update it as time passes by.
They did have an updatable and an expensive cart (it was only $5-10 cheaper) . They couldn't clone gateway anymore so they are changing the hardware and changing the name, those who buy it again deserve to get screwed when support disappears.

tbh i doubt they even hit a road block cloning gateway, they had already proven the team behind it where half decent reverse engineers/crackers even if they couldn't do anything from scratch themselves (or when they tried it was really poor quality i.e their poc cheat system)......to me it seems more like they weren't getting the sales they imagined they would and just decided to drop the card as the payout wasn't good enough for them once everyone finally accepted they where simply cloning and people started to steer clear of them (same deal with R4 DE really)

As someone who never owned a MT, I'm curious... what was so bad about its cheat feature that everybody considers it awful?

Their cheat list only supported 6 or 7 Japanese games or so. And they never updated it after.

yep basically a grand total of around 12 games of which many where just duplicates for alternate regions, i also haven't owned a MT card, but just from the general talk when it was released it was pretty much useless often crashed/froze before applying cheats, the lack of cheats and inability for people to add their own made it something you would expect from a beginner dev on gbatemp rather than a team that is actually meant to be selling their work as part of a product

I see. That sounds pretty bad. Sounds like they added the feature just so that they could claim the MT supports cheats when competitors don't...
