Edit: Ninja'd <_<

but that OK Go preinstalled ticket is still in your ticket.db right? the video might have gone in an update, but you would still have the ticket, i'm pretty sure. (could be wrong!)

Possibly, I don't know. But this doesn't have to do with ticket.db anyway, it has to do with your eShop download history.

Flipnote (in Japan) and Tomodochi (in EU) aren't just preinstalled, they're permanently tied to your (unchangeable) Device ID. Whenever you connect to the eShop (without a memory patch), the titles are automatically added to your account. If you format and delete your eShop account, the titles will still be there. And if the eShop sees that you own these titles, but they don't exist in your region, it throws an error and doesn't let you connect. I'm assuming the same applies to Visual Experience, but I don't know.

OK Go doesn't show up in your download history, and it also predates the eShop, so I doubt it applies here.

so do you know if these games are tied to the console before they ever access online?......theoretically couldnt you buy a brand new EU console, remove the ticket for tomodachi life/visual experience to prevent that title becoming console bound?

So, I would actually like to try this. I might as well—I ordered a new N3DS anyway (from Japan), since my current one's NFC is screwed up. I want to see what will happen if I region change it to the US before ever connecting it to the internet.

There's only one problem. According to Avalynn (I had it shipped to her directly; she's currently installing a NAND mod), the system has the dreaded 8.1. I can't use Cubic Ninja on that firmware, and I can't update the console without connecting to Nintendo's servers.

Well not like you guys would ever listen to me but like I said: the titles are tied SERVER SIDE. Nothing you do on your 3ds will ever change it because it's on Nintendo's server.

you suggested this a week ago and i said i already tried it.

i already tried that.
EDIT: also now that gateway supports 8.1 you should be able to use fbi.3ds in gateway mode to install whatever ninjhax needs to work not that it will help.

You can use NTR on that firmware and update it with memory patches pretty easily...
Wait no, "nintendo servers". Never mind.

you could use FBI and just install the CIAs though. although the native firm would not be updated, right? fbi could be updated to enable this. or does sysupdater do this, working in ninjhax?
if native firm is not changed from 8.1 to 9.2 there is no need to worry

but i think as yifan_lu said, it does not matter if you connect to nintendo's servers, they already have your records, connected or not

Yup, those titles are tied at factory I believe. It may even be done retoactively. For example, I just created a new eshop account on my 2DS and saw swapnote in my download history.

Alright, so aside from me giving yifanlu a hard time (protip: don't forget the format step, my NNID now says JP language, even though it seems meaningless currently) it does work in the end.
The step of using an O3DS does appear to be the trick, after all.

So while it's not really "simple" by any means, it is at least "doable".

So are we able to do the EU > US swap without sacrificing a US console for the sys. ids and stuff yet? I've got a 9.0.0 n3DS (Came with the Tomadachi demo btw) and have EU Cubic Ninja coming in the mail within a week so I'd like to be prepared.

Is it permanent for switching the region, or does it require you to do the steps every time you want to connect?

Yes and no... Using an O3DS to fake the request so the N3DS can work, that's mostly permanent as far as we know thus far... just don't mess with the NAND or go to an unlinked Sys/EmuNAND.
You do, however, still need version/country(/serial if you did that) patches in NTR every use.

You don't have to do ALL the steps, but yes, you have to run a command in NTR every time you want to connect to the eShop.

Edit: and Ninja'd again :P

That doesn't sound awful. So essentially, we've cracked the code then huh? This is exciting. Is the guide updated for it yet?

No, because Yifanlu is the one who actually fixed it. I know what I'd have to do (patch a SOAP request), but I haven't figured out how to actually do it yet (nor have I really tried, because finals).

Edit: Posted the Google Docs guide in the tutorial section, without the steps that I'd originally thought would fix the eShop. I still don't know how useful it is without the eShop, but I don't want people to have to stare at html formatting tags. :P

The Google Doc is still available here with the extra steps, if you need them for whatever reason.

I'm back after a few weeks away from all this. Have successfully swaped my emunand. and injected it into my sysNand as crazy as it sounds. Everything works great like in emunand... Except the eshop. When I try to launch the eshop It gets stuck on the 3ds logo. I did clean my nand for anything I could clearly state as being A Jap system title and everything works fine on emunand :/.
Any idea ?

You could add steps under a label of "if you potentially want eShop on the future" to connect with version spoof on original firmware to create a legacy account.
If you fake enough requests, you can make one manually (YifanLu's doing as usual) but it was definitely simpler to have a legacy account already there... just don't make any NNID before formatting region swapped NAND if at all. (Because apparently the format option in settings keeps the legacy account if you don't have an ID. I tried formatting with one, was not fun times, do not recommend.)

Alright so I've been looking around what I have installed and the eshop application comes from the 9.3.0 update when the eshop system applet comes from 9.0.0. My guess is that on GW's classic mod some version check is bypassed when both the applet and tiger interact, which is why it fails on sysnand. Any input on that? Only issue is I can't seem to find tiger v13320 that came with 9.0.0 on cdn :/.

EDIT: Found it, entry on 3dbrew was wrong, the version number is 13321, reverting to it removed the crash on Sysnand, so version mismatch this was.

Just a quick question:

Are system transfers possible with this?

I've got my original 3DS, a JPN 9.2 N3DS, and a donor original 3DS on 7.1
