Are there any restrictions on the type of accessory or the associated game system(s)? Can the tutorial describe creating a brand new type of accessory?

What we're specifically looking for are 3D printed parts for figurines that interact with your video games. That could describe amiibo, skylanders, or another figurine from a company that likes to sue people over their copyrighted characters (hence why those didn't show up in the banner)

because Vulpes included
Code:
"...a custom Amiibo or other game accessory!..."
So a skylander is part of the other game accessory category...

I see, thanks.

Not to mention that depending on what you want to do, those are just as good for a base and NFC stickers as any Amiibo.

True.

I was hoping somebody would ask how the dual-NFC tag system would have worked in the Tempiibo.
"You take two bases and glue them together bottom-to-bottom with a piece of foil in between them. Then all you have to do is flip the base over to the other side and set Tempy into the footprints and Voila! you're ready to save to your second profile!"
The easiest and cheesiest gimmick possible, but it would work.

Can I use that in my NFC accessory for this contest?

Awww yeah. Also, if I don't have a wii u or n3ds can I mail it to someone for proof of working, or do we need any proof of work at all?

The NFC isn't the important part. In this contest the emphasis is on 3D printing. There may be other variations in the future, depending on how much of a response we get.

Okay. And one more thing- submission. Any criteria or how we do it (private msging mods, create new thread, or mail it in)?

For someone with an Amiibo and calipers/an uncanny sense of measurement: How wide is a standard amiibo's base? Also, how high is it?

Base, whole
Max width 1.94"
Top width 1.90"
Bottom width 1.89"
Outer edge 0.404"
Thickest part, center 0.376"
Thinnest part, center 0.371"
Bottom rim width 0.217"
Distance from bottom to widest part of base: 0.14
Distance from top to widest part of base: 0.29

Base, bottom piece
Interior width: 1.72"
Interior depth: 0.30"
Wall thickness, max: 0.12"
Wall thickness, min: 0.08"
Total thickness, individual: 0.396"

Base, top piece
Cap width: 1.75"
Neck width: 1.60"
Height: 0.31"
Footprint depth 0.21"

NFC tag
Thickness: 0.09"
Width: 1.10"

I had meant to have a picture of these parts and label the portions I'm talking about, but that will have to wait for another day

I have access to a 3D printer (Ultimaker 2), however, I'm not really creative.
If someone has a cool 3D model, which is stable enough to print, I'll gladly print them.

I can only print in a single colour, so yea

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
