Version/Console?

Not without a hardware mod, and even then I'm not even sure what's in that revision, for all I know it could have been one of my testing revisions where I kinda experiment with things. I think in one I attempted to read out the SecureInfo_A and then write to it, but it turned out that it just caused a soft brick due to missing cias. I think I tried out a few other similar things as well, most of which failed and needed a hard mod to flash back.

So now that Gateway supports Cubic Ninja, wouldn't that open up an entry point for 8.1J users?

I hope so. I don't want a limited system, even if 8.1J works with GW this project and others look promising. Already have my CN on the way from Japan.

I think it needs the browser to work, just like ninjhax. So that would disqualify 8.1J given it has no browser.

Well it's not like we've had a perfectly open repository for ninjhax just kinda sitting there this whole time...

(The answer is yes, but not because of GW)

No, it doesn't. You don't need browser permissions to launch memchunkhax, you can do it directly from Cubic Ninja

I was able to install and execute the GW CN exploit in classic mode. I was too lazy to set up wifi in sysnand to confirm if that worked too, but booting CN from 8.1J sysnand is definitely working.
