I just wanted to stop by and say this thread really is something else, with the crew very frequently posting updates, actually answering most questions, even if not particularly relevant or informated, and, sadly, putting up with quite a lot of bullshit as of late. I'd hate to see such a neat initiative as this one get shut down because of this fruitless eternal piracy 'debate'.
Please do carry on guys!

And that's fine with me, there are already many ways to load roms, legitimate or not, and to expect anyone to create a free solution at this point is an exercise in futility. Besides, money is a great motivator to get new features faster, lol

Dang, this is exciting stuff! I may have to pick up a Japanese copy of Cubic Ninja sooner than later!

If importing a JP copy is costly, I would suggest just getting the Sky3DS. The JP rom of CN would do just fine :)

If you're getting it for cheap, then never mind :) I bought my PAL CN for €23 :)

I'm not even sure why I check this thread. It's just pages and pages of "Why noe RomZ?!!" and "Emul8orz = Piracy!!!". Everyone needs to shut up about both arguments. You guys release whatever you want, or not, it's up to you. Anyone else, if you want something that bad, learn how to do it yourselves.
Now, I'll be keeping an eye out on the front page to see if this gets released or not later on, but 80 pages of "I want romz" doesn't interest me.

Yeah, and you are one of the third group saying that the first two groups should shut up. And believe me, you should, too, if you intend this discussion to come to an end. You are still keeping this going by trying to have the last word in this. I'm keeping this going, too, but I know about that and I don't mind. Don't know about you, but at least your post reads like "I do not want this discussion here."
But now to something different (and I hope that you at least answer this question so this is out of the way and not open for further discussion): Why are you assuming that everyone discussing the emulator and backup stuff wants backups enabled? I for myself am just discussing this with no such intention. Just out of curiosity. I'm not interested in backup loading in KARL, since I'm fine with flashcarts. But why shouldn't I be allowed to just ask for the difference between an emulator and a backup loader WITHOUT the intention of telling anyone what to do with their project?

As you asked nicely, I am assuming that the argument between backups and emulators is coming fro the "we want backup loading" camp, is because after skimming the pages, that seems to be the direction the argument is coming from. Just because the masses have found another hand full of people who know how to code a 3DS backup loader, does not automatically entitle ANYONE to have one, nor does it obligate those people to make/release one.

I'm not trying to have the last word, I just voiced my opinion after skimming 80 pages of bickering about retro emulators vs 3ds loaders. Just because they both provide ways to play games that the end user doesn't require the original storage hardware, does not mean they cause the same amount of damage. Retro emulators are used by people who will play a small handful of games that remind them of their childhood, or someone curious about what game x was all about. These people either still own the hardware from years ago, or just don't want the games systems taking up space in their house. These people would not go out and buy the hardware. People who download modern games take sales away that might have happened. Big companies will tell you that lost sales are why piracy is wrong because if you pirate a game, then you take $50 out of their pockets. However, it is very likely that people who pirate games wouldn't buy them anyway "I'm poor" "games cost too much" etc. it is also likely that piracy hurts companies in the exact same way that playable demos hurt them, by showing potential customers that those game are not worth the money, so they lose sales. Now weather that hurts the company in the long run, remains to be seen. As many people have speculated, some consoles in the past may have thrived because of piracy, increasing console sales and thus increasing software releases. Personally I don't pirate 3DS game for two reasons, 1. I don't think many 3DS games are even worth playing and 2. I really don't care for the idea. If I wanted to play games for free, I'd borrow them from a friend, trade in old games at a local store etc. As it stands, I don't mind paying for games that are worth the money.

As for why shouldn't you ask about the difference between a backup loader and an emulator is a really easy one to answer, because this isn't the place. This is a thread about a group wanting to create/port a homebrew loader to versions of the 3DS that currently don't support ninjhax fully. There is a 'post new thread' button in the '3DS Homebrew Development and Emulators' sub section of the forum for people who want to talk about something different.

That's all it is. You have to let go of the technicalities and join us in the real world. The one does significant damage to an active platform, the other does not. The one is easily prevented, the other is not. We're trying to do "the right thing".

Maybe you should whine at the homebrew devs who make emulators that can load "backups"?

Sorry if this is a pointless question, but I cannot find it on the first post (if its there them im blind as fuck) but, is the only method of loading this gonna be through Cubic Ninja?

Just curious before I end up going in debt to buy a copy (if it is, the price is gonna skyrocket;-;)

Entrypoints
Gain ARM11 Kernel Access from within the Ninjhax Environment Done! N3DS or O3DS v9.2 or less
Gain ARM11 Kernel Access from SPIDER(Old 3DS Web Browser) O3DS v9.2 or less
Gain ARM11 Kernel Access from MSET(DS profile exploit) O3DS v4.5 or less
Gain ARM11 Kernel Access via Cubic Ninja and another applet N3DS 8.1J Support possible?

^ though this is actually slightly wrong, mset exploit is possible up to 7.0.

Not sure if this has been asked before, but if I use the emunand feature to link my Nintendo Network ID to it and get all my games from the eShop and then later on decide that I don't need any homebrew anymore and just delete the emunand and update the sysnand to the latest version: Will my eShop games still be waiting for me in the eShop or will they be gone with the emunand?

*snip*

my issue is they claim open source then hide behind "we're doing this for the good of the console" when people question how they can call it an open source project yet have closed sections. I have no issue with their project but they need to tell it like it is. My other issue is they are actively making features to allow for easier emulation of games while at the same time decrying any attempts to emulate current gen games.

edit: edited this, must have misread your post a little lol

They ARE obfuscating their code. That's what I have an issue with. They claim open source then hide behind "we're doing this for the good of the console". I have no issue with their project but they need to tell it like it is.

Yes I know that, and to be honest, it is protecting themselves AND their project. They do NOT want their project to be RE'd into a warez loader, and that is fine by me. At least they're doing something for the 3DS scene. It is their project, they can do whatever the fuck they want.

It is gonna get to the point where they turn round and say 'fuck it, not releasing it because people bitch about it not being used for piracy' and I wouldnt fucking blame them.

The only closed-sourced code is the FIRM code iirc, which can be RE'd into a warez loader, which is one thing they do not want.

It is kind of BS though they could have just said its not possible and no one would complain.
Its kind of like they told everyone on gbatemp "Hey everyone were going to Disney World! but only for one day and we have to leave at 8 on the dot"

Okay, if that's your problem, I'll be honest. The core team has nothing to do with the OP. We're not in control of it at all. It's clear what of what we've done is open source or not, because it's already open source and available.
