Yeah, and you are one of the third group saying that the first two groups should shut up. And believe me, you should, too, if you intend this discussion to come to an end. You are still keeping this going by trying to have the last word in this. I'm keeping this going, too, but I know about that and I don't mind. Don't know about you, but at least your post reads like "I do not want this discussion here."
But now to something different (and I hope that you at least answer this question so this is out of the way and not open for further discussion): Why are you assuming that everyone discussing the emulator and backup stuff wants backups enabled? I for myself am just discussing this with no such intention. Just out of curiosity. I'm not interested in backup loading in KARL, since I'm fine with flashcarts. But why shouldn't I be allowed to just ask for the difference between an emulator and a backup loader WITHOUT the intention of telling anyone what to do with their project?
As you asked nicely, I am assuming that the argument between backups and emulators is coming fro the "we want backup loading" camp, is because after skimming the pages, that seems to be the direction the argument is coming from. Just because the masses have found another hand full of people who know how to code a 3DS backup loader, does not automatically entitle ANYONE to have one, nor does it obligate those people to make/release one.
I'm not trying to have the last word, I just voiced my opinion after skimming 80 pages of bickering about retro emulators vs 3ds loaders. Just because they both provide ways to play games that the end user doesn't require the original storage hardware, does not mean they cause the same amount of damage. Retro emulators are used by people who will play a small handful of games that remind them of their childhood, or someone curious about what game x was all about. These people either still own the hardware from years ago, or just don't want the games systems taking up space in their house. These people would not go out and buy the hardware. People who download modern games take sales away that
might have happened. Big companies will tell you that lost sales are why piracy is wrong because if you pirate a game, then you take $50 out of their pockets. However, it is very likely that people who pirate games wouldn't buy them anyway "I'm poor" "games cost too much" etc. it is also likely that piracy hurts companies in the exact same way that playable demos hurt them, by showing potential customers that those game are not worth the money, so they lose sales. Now weather that hurts the company in the long run, remains to be seen. As many people have speculated, some consoles in the past may have thrived because of piracy, increasing console sales and thus increasing software releases. Personally I don't pirate 3DS game for two reasons, 1. I don't think many 3DS games are even worth playing and 2. I really don't care for the idea. If I wanted to play games for free, I'd borrow them from a friend, trade in old games at a local store etc. As it stands, I don't mind paying for games that are worth the money.
As for why shouldn't you ask about the difference between a backup loader and an emulator is a really easy one to answer, because this isn't the place. This is a thread about a group wanting to create/port a homebrew loader to versions of the 3DS that currently don't support ninjhax fully. There is a 'post new thread' button in the '3DS Homebrew Development and Emulators' sub section of the forum for people who want to talk about something different.
