OP
I used to do this alot in the past but it's been atleast a few years since i last did it so i've forgotten the easy way i used to do it and now i find it extremely hard trying to do this although i'm about 99.99% sure one of you will explain to me how simple it is. Ok... back when i used to use ULoader and i had my external drives formatted to WBFS, i would simply rent Wii games from the video shop and copy them straight onto the drive no problems. As i said it's been awhile because every game i wanted since then i just used torrents and i switched to the latest version of Wiiflow and now just have a "WBFS" folder on my Fat32 formatted external drive which runs much more smoothly and just better in general. Unfortunately i recently stumbled across a hidden Wii gem i want to add to my collection but surprisingly, very surprisingly, couldn't find a torrent for it anywhere so i had no choice but to rent a copy and have tried (I know abit about Wii hacking but i'm far from a genius on the subject) everything i could to rip a copy but i can't even figure how to do it!!.

Ok so here is what i have... 1. It's vWii on a Wii U, 2. latest version of Wiiflow (whatever that is), 3. a 500gb external hd.

Ok now someone please tell me in an easy-to-understand, step-by-step way to rip a copy of the game on the external drive which i can then play without needing the disc anymore. Cheers.

launch Wiiflow
insert disc
it will probably ask you if you want to dump the game, if it doesn't ask you then you probably have a button to press on the screen to dump it.
wait for dump to complete... done

you can also use other loaders if you want to dump games (USBLoaderGX is as easy "insert disc, press install, wait...done")
dumped games are compatible automatically with all loaders as they share the same folders.

wiiflow won't ask to dump the game
he needs to press Home then select "install game"

Thanks for replying guys... just one thing that's come up now. I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly except that 4 copies of the game now appear on the screen. The game still works fine no matter which one of them i click on but i guess it's just my OCD - all i want is 1 copy. I've tried deleting the other 3 but for some reason everytime i delete 1 another fills it's place. I then un-plugged my external drive and connected it to my computer to have a look what was in there and the installed game was on the outside of the "WBFS' folder (on the root to be specific) in it's own folder so i moved the wbfs file of that game to the WBFS folder and deleted the folder it came from and then when i re-plugged it to my Wii and opened Wiiflow the exact same thing was there - 4 copies instead of 1 and again no matter how many i delete another fills it's spot. Any suggestions?

P.S. Also another small thing i was hoping one of you could help me out with - I also had a look at the root of the SD card i use for my homebrew channel when i was first trying to get this to work incase there was something wrong on there and for some reason there was a whole heap of screenshots of the homebrew channel. I've never seen that before... what exactly is going on there?

You used Wiiflow to dump games?
It's strange that some ISO were in wbfs and other were on the root.

You can use Wii Backup Manager to automatically move/rename dumped games to correct path.
you put all wbfs files into the /wbfs/ folder, launch the program and it will do its magic for you.

You only need to set up the program like this :
Options > Settings > FAT32/NTFS tab :
- Folder layout = Title_[ID]
- Automatically update storage convention when drive is mounted

Options > Settings > Titles tab:
- Use Wiitdb
- Download the title.txt and set the language you want to use for your game's titles.
- Use Wiitdb titles for files and folders

Now, each time you mount your HDD inside this program, all the .wbfs files are correctly renamed to work with all loaders.
Just verify that you have no write protected files.

Ok i probably should have explained earlier... Just up until recently i had my external drive formatted to WBFS and all the games on there were full iso's and i used an older version of Wiiflow to launch them. It was because i discovered WiiMC and that i could use my Wii as a media player aswell that i switched to the new method i have now so that way i could also have all my video and music files on there too. This one here is the only game i've installed with Wiiflow. When i first made the transition i used WBFS Manager to extract the iso's of all the games i had on my external drive to to my computer and then used a program called "ISO TO WBFS" to turn them into WBFS files which i then copied to my external drive after i formatted it to Fat32 and made a WBFS folder. Everything then worked just fine and all my games only showed up once on the screen. Now after this install i did, as previously mentioned, there are 4 copies of the game showing up and i can't get rid of any of them and i just tried AbdallahTerro's suggestion of clicking on "reload cache" and that did nothing. I just want the cover of the new game i have to appear on the screen once... just like all my other games... gladly appreciate a simple fix. Thanks.

ahh, sorry I didn't understood.

I don't know how wiiflow is working, but here are the things I would do:

You can try a clean Wiiflow install (try with a new SD card instead of deleting Wiiflow folder and its config folder, or make a backup of everything in a different folder) to see if the issue is the configs or the USB. This step will help you determine where the issue is located.
I think wiiflow is storing configs on the Wii now, so you can delete settings by going to data management (move to SD if you want to keep a backup, or delete it)

If the issue is still happening with a clean install, fully deleted settings, then it's an issue with your USB.
verify that your /wbfs/ folder doesn't contains multiple folder with the same GameID (in case wiiflow use Folder's name as game detection), or that you don't have multiple .wbfs files in the folders.
per folder, you should have one wbfs and one wbf0 if the game is bigger than 4GB.

If it's not happening with a clean install, something wrong in your settings/cache/something else.

from here I'll let you do the tests and report back so we can find other things to try if it's still happening.

Oh hey Cyan, lol forgot all about you :P All good now. What i did was copy both the contents of the external HD and SD card to my computer, then re-format both, then copy them back and then try again and this time there was 3 covers instead of 4. So i simply repeated the process over and over again till i got it down to 2 and then finally 1. LOL... anyone else wouldn't have cared but find someone with OCD and ask them what it's like having things "un-even" Cheers for your help.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

    Booo.

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
