Correct me if I'm wrong, but we can still play firmware spoofed CIA files of 9.5 or higher on 9.4 or lower emunand?

Just support all the games released TILL DATE. There's over 35 quality games right there I can think of, which will take a year minimum. By then surely gateway will wait a new idea out. I'm on 9.0 E anyway.

The only major issue I see with N3DS not having 9.5 emunand is that all those hoping to system transfer their stuff over to N3DS won't be able to because the target system (the n3DS) can't run 9.5 on emunand and system transfer won't work until it's updated to latest firmware.

Totally nailed the dilemma I have. Now I can't use my old 3ds for the trade in deal towards a new 3ds (ordered MH n3ds). But at least on the bright side I can buy a qq3ds and use that for the meantime.

I'm curious to see if one will be able to manually update emunand on n3DS to a partial 9.5 system. Update everything except the Arm9 and perhaps version spoof Arm9 firmware if necessary. Could be a decent short term solution that would allow system transfer.

Perhaps Gateway will release an "updater" which does the opposite of their downgrader. Would be nice to update my 3DS XL to 9.2. But can't because it was never updated to that before and no NAND image of 9.2 exists for this console.

Obviously updating via rom won't work because I bricked my last 3DS trying that and besides, that would only bring me to 8.1 as that's the latest cartridge bundled update out right now.

Honestly what bothers me the most about no 9.5 emunand on the new 3ds is the fact that I cant do a system transfer between my old and new 3ds when it comes on the 13th. Or am I wrong and there is another way to do it?

It'll get hacked eventually. Unless it takes them over a year to do it, functionality will remain the same.

Glad I didn't jump on to the N3DS train too early, though. No real improvements unless you count coloring some buttons.

You forget there's going to be exclusive games that won't ever play on a regular 3DS.

N3DS does not have better hardware? WTF?

NFC for Ammibo, and better processing power as seen by faster eshop installation speeds. And the NAND points are different on the motherboard. Regardless if it's the same firmware version for both consoles, the N3DS does have different/better hardware in some respects.

I would bet the next Pokemon game might be an n3DS exclusive. Pokemon Ammibos anyone? that could be a pretty interesting addition to the main Pokemon series. Pokemon being exclusive to n3DS would be the only reason I would really attempt to eventually get a n3DS.

The only reason I'm getting it is to free myself of the unbearable grip that is the 2DS. I will have quite a bit of extra cash laying around at the end of the month, so instead of being a responsible adult, I am going to blow a ton of it on a N3DS import, base plates, Gateway Carts, and a game or two.

Firmware spoofing will not work if the game requires the new firmware to actually run properly.

However most likely API hooking/translation will. Just implement the new firmware functions required yourself and patch the game to use your code instead of the FW code.

Not sure if it is that easy we should be fine for awhile bit once Nintendo pushes out new SDK to devs and new games are built around the new SDK then spoofing is not going to help us and what you are suggesting is no easy task I'm sure, it would probably just be easier for the
Try and break the new encryption Instead but I could be wrong I mean something similar was done on ps3 with word files but the lv0 key was leak shortly after so it didn't really matter that much

I heard the NN3DS will be shipping on 9.2 to the uk, not 100% sure though just what I have been told by a fellow friend that works at a game shop but not GAME itself of course. :)

Edit: but yeah worst case scenario I could still order an Australia unit from 365games.co.uk :)

We don't know yet, we only be sure when someone manage to get a USA/EUR N3DS from a retail store and take a picture of the firmware version. In the worst scenario, we'll know it in 9 days, when it'll be released (probably a few days before as some stores always give games/systems a bit before the release date to keep their customers).

So if MM need a fw of 9.1-9.4 and you have a nn3ds on 9.0 you aren't going to be able to play it? Or is there another way to update the emunand?
