maybe diagasso band bros p i heard? maybe

maybe, in gw mode
WHAT!!! A new Daigasso! game??? I love you so much right now! That series is amazing :D

That and Picross are the big Japanese games I'd want to play right now.

So then... How hardware specific are we talking? Could you potentially open up your NA N3DS XL and take the hardware specific parts out and try and make it fit into the N3DS from a different country? ... Or something like that, because just cramming the N3DS XL into a N3DS wouldn't make much sense.

It's encrypted from the factory with a key specific to that individual device. As of yet, we haven't been able to/will never be able to break that encryption. You could probably replace the NAND chip, and it would probably work, even between a n3DS and a n3DSXL. But I don't know, crazy rich people are going to have to try that and get back with us.

Bro, please stop talking about things you know nothing about. If the Key was on the NAND, it would have been found ages ago. It's not on the NAND. In fact, it's needed for your console to be able to read what's in the NAND in the first place.

And for everyone still wondering why this WILL NOT WORK (currently) on an N3DS, it's because you have no way of generating the needed xorpads to decrypt stuff from your console. The launcher.dat that takes care of that part just hasn't been updated yet to work above 4.5.

Get off your high horse. I never once claimed to be an expert. I never said "I'm a pro and know everything about this." I DID say "probably," and that doesn't exactly feign confidence in the topic. This is a forum. People talk about things they don't know about all the time. It's the point. We discuss, we correct each other, and we learn.

Congratulations. You know stuff. Be nicer about it next time.

And so, for someone who's desperately trying to make purchasing decisions, what are the chances that this will in fact be updated at some point in the somewhat-forseeable future?

Is it just something no one has done yet, or would it require some kind of new, major breakthrough?

I couldn't answer that intelligently. If you want me to make an assumption, I'd say it can probably be updated, considering we have 7.x crypto info. I don't know if anybody is working on it though. I also have to assume that many people capable of it probably have turned their efforts towards the Wii U at the moment, since the common key was leaked...

okay, now after us nintendo direct, i really hope this region change is the surprise feature.
if it's fully implemented and work flawlessly, i can import a good sized new 3ds and change it's region.
i can live without screenshoot/realtime save and especially cheat feature (the least thing i want as ultra surprise feature)

If all of the kinks get worked out, I'd be in heaven. I actually live in Japan at the moment and can already get second-hand N3DS consoles for less than 18,000 yen (less than $180)

Good thing I didn't buy one then. I thought it was cheap, considering they are $199 in the U.S. (MSRP). Where did you get it?

On second thought... maybe the ones I was looking at were new. I assumed they were used because I was thinking the price was too cheap and the place I was at deals with new and used stuff (and they have very interesting special editions of stuff... like a gold Punchout cartridge... (can't recall if that was Famicom or GB Advance though...)

When this is ready for a release, will running on 4.5 still be a requirement? Is there a certain reason for this, or perhaps a limitation of 9.2 that we can't get around yet?

What? It's not a requirement. People just prefer to downgrade so they won't have to have a wifi connection. It's also safe to assume that the New 3DS systems will never be able to use firmware 4.x because they have different hardware. It just won't work...

A.) You made exactly zero sense.
B.) Please refer to the OP:
(I had this yesterday, but I took the video today - it has nothing to do with GW's new launcher, I just updated to it before I took the video, all that is really required is 4.5 and a ds mode flashcart)
It has been stated to be a requirement. My question is why, and if this can be overcome in the future.

we need 4.x because that is where all the good stuff is stuck at at the moment until it gets updated/released for us.
the tool i made needs full control/access, and at the moment it is not public how to do it with GW's new loader.
it's not a big deal, just wait a bit

thank you for your confirmation

if you have your xorpads for nand, you can technically do this on any fw, if you have a nand dump, or 9.x gw + emunand. - but most people will not have this situation.

nand xorpads are like 3ds file xorpads?
aren't they console-specific?

So what necessary changes can't be done by editing the NAND? Is the 4.x limit because it requires changes to be made at runtime (not just written to nand?)

yes your nand xorpads are unique to your nand :)

it doesn't need to be at run time.
as soon as we can do it in 9.x, we can change region there too.
