So far IGN, Gamespot and GameXplain have unboxing videos up. They have the themes button so we know it's at least 9.0 (pretty much a given). We'd need to either have someone enter System Settings or check for a theme shuffle button.

I believe they've only reviewed the EUR and JAP consoles...

lol no problem. I know you were. but for real I want 9.3 on all NA 3ds xls

The only reason i hope they are 9.2 or lower is for the gateway community and because they will deserve it for making me import..

But if its. 9.3... Im not gonna lose sleep over it.. Im importing.;)

i'm surprised no one posted a comment on that youtube us n3ds unboxing vid asking what's the firmware version. :)

Here's IGN's:

Here's Gamespot's

None show the system menu. But I am sure you can ask on Twitter or the YouTube comments.

If it 9.2 or lower I'll sell my aussie new 3ds xl on ebay RIGHT NOW. :) good thing I only spent $220 for it. I could probably profit from it.

the first video posted on page 19 shows the sides of the boxes, and something that was not there on the Japanese or Australian systems is there on the america version! If you didn't notice, the serial is on the side of the box with a barcode. So this thread should have a purpose after all. Once people start reporting N3DSXL purchases that is. Look at the 35 second mark

maybe someone else can also confirm this on this video and on other videos too...
I'm going to watch some more unboxing videos to see if those outside the box serial barcodes are visible in those videos as well.

edit: gamespot video you can see that there is serial bar code with the similar letters mixed with numbers (to prove it is not just a normal barcode that has only numbers). The serial shown on the box in the gamespot video is not zoomed in enough to get all the details like the first video, but it is zoomed in enough to confirm that there are at least three unboxing videos that show serial codes on the outside of the boxes! The third is the Nick Robinson video. He decided to cover his up with a sharpie though, but in comparison to the other videos, one can see that what is sharpied over is more than likely the serial barcode of the system.

It should be safe....
Can't you return the thing if it is not satisfactory?
Not sure how return policy works in Japan but probably yes :P
By the way, I guess nobody probably knows that yet, but i ask anyway just in case: will gateway truly work on Japanese N3DS or is it not sure? :)

I imported my Japanese New 3DS White version from Nippon-Yasan. I can confirm that there was nothing (such as a clear sticker) preventing opening the box and taking the system out and checking the firmware and putting it back in the box and closing it...
So if you are able to buy it and return it unopened then I think you should be able to open it, check firmware, and make it look as if no one opened it if you just be gentle to the box.
I hope that helps.
