Hacking Planning on getting a gateway, is it worth it?

Explain what? Gateway promised something and have not recanted on their word. They've promised things in the past and have delivered. How is this any different? The comparison between Sky3DS and Gateway is as abysmal as it ever could be. Sky3DS is literally doing nothing amazing that the Gateway team hasn't already perfected. Honestly, once Gateway gets their 9.x update working, Sky3DS will be gone the way of the R4. It does nothing aside from allow you to pirate games from within your region. Why would anyone buy one when Gateway, a team with solid credentials and a competent development team, has promised much more? People didn't buy an R4 when they could've gotten a CycloDS unless they only wanted to spend $4 instead of $30, but not even Sky3DS has that – their card is 30% more expensive than the Gateway card when it should be cheaper for its lack of usability and functionality.

Actually, sky3ds supports all firmware revs, GW still has not released support. So yeah sky3ds is doing something, ATM, that GW has not done. Not a fanboy, just pointing out the obvious.

At least it's out there ready to use. How about all that money Gateway took from people after they were trusted. People bought new systems BECAUSE of Gateway and now they STILL haven't delivered. Explain that.......

Sound so offensive. No need for that. State some positive facts and be done with.

Like the name of the thread says, I'm planning on getting a flash card. And I've heard a ton about gateway, and how it has region-free, homebrew support, ability to download eshop games for free (or something like that), and the like.

Then I see videos showing off DevMenu, or whatever it's called. And the ability to backup your sysNAND (if I understood it correctly?) and restore it, kinda like what BootMii does back on the Wii. My system is currently running on 9.2, and I've left my 3DS off just so it can't update.

With all the things I can do, and while it does tempting. It also looks like there's the risk of bricking.

So, what exactly can I do with the gateway card, before I make take the leap of faith to actually get/use one.

What is it you look for in a card? If GW fits your needs than get it. You've done your research and know what it do, so you should be able to answer this question without someone holding your hand.

I think it's obvious to wait for an actual release, even though i'm expecting gateway to deliever i don't see a point to buy it when you still can't use it.

In terms of features (the act of playing games) Sky3DS has literally nothing over the Gateway.

Thomas / PagaN or who ever they pretend to be I one sick individual with a real unhealthy obsession towards gateway. Imagine making a fake account and then liking your own comments from another, how sick in the head must you be to do something like that. I personally never experienced this level of crazy combined with troll on any forum til now.

Whatever, it works, if people want uncertain future with sky3ds which emulates card it's their choice. If people want emunand they're gonna go for gateway anyway.
In a way sky3ds might be all people need assuming nintendo won't make a workaround at some point i.e. new fw or new games and carts.

GW currently doesn't even work, while the sky3ds does. I guess not working does count as a feature lol

I shouldn't have to explain something that's been detailed to you twice on the same page. Sky3DS feature-wise does nothing that Gateway doesn't. Literally nothing. They do what gateway has been doing (and better, I might add with .cia installation, region-free, and multi-ROM menu support). Working, by its purest, most literal definition, does not count as a feature. If you want to make it more insulting, Gateway, something that works on an outdated firmware, has higher compatibility than something that does. How crazy is that? If you work for Sky3DS, this is entirely shameful. The fact that you're parading around promoting something that is lackluster is simply lamentable.

sent a mail to gateway to ask if they would pay for shipping and duty costs if i get a brick from a genuine gateway card... they replied but didn't answer my question... I have asked them twice.. sounds like they don't want to answer

I'm only talking GW for >4.5 users. If you have a <=4.5 3DS, I agree you'd be a fool to buy a Sky3DS instead of a GW.

Sky3DS works on 3DSs with system firmwares 9.3 and 9.4, and since you said that Gateway can do everything Sky3DS can, I guess everyone can safely update to 9.4 now (before Nintendo pushes out 9.5 or 10). Also, a flashcart working on more system firmware versions is a feature (GW is trying to do exactly this with their new update). There has been no explicit confirmation from GW themselves on whether their new update will have Emunand or not.

I'm ignoring you now. If you're so sensitive to people saying bad things about GW and good things about Sky3DS, I recommend you ignore me as well.

Sky3ds cannot do this, meanwhile GW can:

-Menu OSD title selection, Cia instalation, Game Cart Backup, Clean Boot Region Free System, Backup system nand, Emunand, etc....says hi :D

The best thing for me is region free, will be cool to play monster hunter 4 ultimate(USA) original cart, in my japanese new3ds monster hunter 4G limited edition, something that will never been able to do with a sky3ds.
Not counting homebrew, and all the other cool things you can do with GW.

;)

My only problem with sky3ds can be summed up in two words: blue button.

Sky3ds is great and all, and it works for now, but it's kinda crappy for a flash cart manufacturer to suddenly remove a 10 game limit after someone figures out how to break it. Even worse, instead of updating their existing carts they just released another cart to make more money. On the flip side Gateway has done bricking code in the past which had some misfires, but they cleaned that up thankfully. However, the point remains that people with the original Gateway carts can still use their cartridges, while people who bought the red button sky3ds carts are stuck with an artificial 10 game limit.

nope, red cart users can load infinite games too. just the process is a bit long. some say red cart is even better than the blue one because of you can choose which games can write to eeprom.

Chinese capitalism...
Look at it from the bright side, at least you don't have to bribe them to buy a cart ;)
Then again who knows maybe distributors took care of that part for you ;)

You are upset for literally no reason. Sky3DS has no features Gateway doesn't. It actually has barely any features Gateway does – it has 1. It is a piss poor attempt at a money grab by a company that will be dead within a month.

Yes, those are all great features, but for someone who's at 9.0-9.2 system firmware, until GW releases their update, GW card cannot actually do any of the things you listed. And for people who have 9.3 or 9.4 (the majority of 3DS users I suspect), GW won't work even with the new update (although in the far future it might)
