well true enough, but the threads of siblings/kids updating their sysnand are already here/and showing up again (also on maxconsole).
the simple fact of life is that there's lots of tech savvy kids and lots of non-tech savvy kids, just like there are a lot of tech savvy adults and non-tech savvy adults. You know the kind of person you are buying the card for, just choose accordingly. And I think having these two very difference choices is a good thing. Diversity and competition always work out pro-consumer.

Dayum! I wonder if Nintendo sponsored that article...

As a parent this is a good idea. maybe it's because i'm in the my 30s but i can't imagine a kid getting consoles for xmas that are into any sort of piracy/modding. I didn't get into anything like this till i was poor and on my own.

well tbh it does have a point with the likes of the xbox one and stuff with big hefty first use updates (especially if you have a slow connection).......but again its all context sensitive anyone who still relies on others to buy their stuff for them should make it clear to anyone who may be buying them it to not run any updates or you know state your intent before asking for it,

yeah but there is the likes of birthday/christmas presents from your partner and stuff (although im usually just left to buy my own stuff so they don't get it wrong )

Have you tried the original firmware of Wii U? Took minutes to start up a game! It's pretty good advice to update before you give it to your kids.

I didn't disagree, on SOME contexts it is a good advice. (And to be fair, I don't have a Wii U, but I'm guessing its a massive update). But given how most of the recent console/handheld hacks have all been low-firmware-dependant, I would say this is advice is "naive" at best.: written by non-tech savvy people, for non-tech savvy parents of non-tech savvy children. I'm not a parent yet, but when that time comes, and my kid is asking for the newest console, I'll be doing my homework before buying and handing over the hardware.
Edit: Who am I kidding? My kids wont ever get a chance to ask for a console, they'll be asking for user accounts in mine.

lucky bastards

its anything £15 and over here in the UK for goods originating from outside the EU. and theres an £8 handling fee on top of that charge too.
Lucky bastards. It's £20 here in Norway.. From ANYWHERE. If you go above that, then you get £11 flat fee + 25% tax.

That article is more about avoiding the headache of dealing with update downloads on xmas day. They are basically advising parents to get the updating out of the way before hand so that the kids can enjoy their new consoles right away on xmas day. The article makes sense for the average consumer. Obviously people like us know updates are less about adding features and more about combating hacks - so we are more likely to not want to update.

Ok, now I got confirmation about several ppl banned from this thread. Let us start a petition to get those banned back. This is purely insane. How dare they just ban ppl from this thread without doing anything???

It's because the mods have to clean up all their stuff which is off topic and that was a lot (like 1 mod said, it took him 1,5 hours) - so they technically did something. Not trying to choose any sides (I am neutral), just explaining why they got banned from the thread.

Well it is te job of the mods to clean up the thread. yes. But there was no reason for a ban. This is a forum. And since those ppl were talking about gateway, I dont really see, where that was off topic.
So, in my opinion that doesnt explain why they just get banned. Everyone got the right of free speech in the most countries right?

unfortunately the all-mighty admin and its minions like to follow strict rules that don't really make much sense. it's not disruptive talk and it's not like there's anything really new to talk about regarding the original topic.
you're all welcome to come talk freely at a more lax place tho ;)

Except this is their forum, it's technically not a democraty ;)

I know that this is now off topic, but indeed even in a non democratic country ppl have some sort of free speech. Its part of the human rights, which should fully exist in most of the western countries.

Well, they did talk about different languages, posted different videos and other off topic stuff - so there was definetly a lot of off topic which was not related to gateway. I follow this thread (and the last thread before Gateway made the video) and there is a looooot of off topic, otherwise you don't reach 430 pages. I don't really mind that, I found that cool and entertaining, but the mods obviously see this differently. It's their forum, so you have to follow or leave, nothing you can do about it sadly:/

P.S. It has nothing to do with free speach. It's their "Hausordnung;)" and they can enforce it if they want. They don't want offtopic, so they delete it. That goes for most forums to be honest.

Hello.

I have just spent and hour and a half of my free time cleaning up this thread. Not only do I now have a personal record high for mod actions this month, I have removed over 19 pages of pure garbage. You are still welcome to post here if it is legit news, questions, or other things directly related to the 9.2 Gateway update.

Posts about:
-hype
-trains
-waiting
-name calling
-off topic
-congratulating me on cleaning this dump up
-counting pages
-complaining about waiting
-anything else I or the rest of the staff deems remove-worthy

will be removed, as will your privileges to post or view this topic. I am personally watching this thread for new posts, and have tapatalk alerts sent to my phone. You have been warned.

Because these kinds of posts leads nowhere. I'm pretty sure everyone on this site knows that GW ppl are sick and tired of waiting.
IF you still wanna talk about it, that's why an IRC channel especially for that was made in order to prevent swelling up the thread with posts that derails.

Okay, here is the clue. Even talking in different languages, in which I did too, we were talking about gateway. If you dont believe, you can just translate that. I m from Germany, speaking three languages, Chinese, German and obviously English. And, I think after the mods cleaned the foreign stuff up while saying that we should stay at english, we actually did.

We posted Videos because we were part of the gateway hype. And also after the mods said, we should stop, we did.
Talking off topic is part of a forum, U cant stay on topic on such a matter if there is nothing happening. A forum is a place where ppl share information and show others their own logic of thinking. This includes the connections relating to gateway, because they are highly unknown from different perspectives. (Origin, Life, Programmers, Releasing dates etc.)

Also the ppl didn't really say that much, after the mods cleared, that it is not welcomed. Even when ppl double posted, which happens, they always apologized.

Noone is forcing those people to become mods. But obviously this shows how anarchistic the mods use their power and force their will on the people.

So basically you are telling people to shut up because you don't like to talk with them right? In that case, why are u even here on a forum?
