So I saw this video a long time ago, and was wondering if someone can clear me up on if this actually worked (or still works). Thanks.

As an owner of multiple gamepads, after a console update when alternating to a different gamepad, the gamepads firmware is prompted to also be updated :(

Still a really cool project none the less. I hate to say it but I feel like the devs lost motivation after decrypting last years gamepad firmware lose good progress after a tiny update from nintendo.

I cant help but think of the possibility of this leading to a vWii app/cIOS to enable gamepad support. If a program can be written to emulate outputs received and inputs given from/to the gamepad such as this one, launching the vWii in this kind of program would make mapping/locating the seemingly unmappable, non-existent Gamepad (buttons/axis/touch screen) inputs during virtual wii mode possible.

Not possible, the hardware needed to use it is disabled when you load vWii mode. By the time you could change cafe2wii to not disable any hardware it'd be useless because the same thing would be possible in the normal Wii U mode.

Not exactly sure what you mean by possible in normal wii u mode. Wouldn't you say however that the hardware needed is limited rather than disabled?
There's no doubt that the NFC chips in the Wii u and Gamepad are sending and receiving the gamepads sensor bar input/output, and sending video output to the gamepad. I was looking over the open source for the gamepad emulator when i saw instances of AV output being translated for gamepad emulation.

vWii has been broken down to a science where programmers can create interfaces for a variety of USB devices to be used in their apps - And the incompatible hardware is able to be emulated from PC, making for closer observation of the sent and received NFC packets (gamepad-to-Wii U, and inputs not sent from gamepad to Wii U, such as the prompt when pressing a gamepad input on vWii), that leaves us with a softmodded wii virtual machine and an emulated means of Wii u hardware that is compatible with vWii (NFC) but limited. I understand though there are no known Wii U mode exploits, but this third obstacle being Wii U mode could possibly be avoided with the hardware/software modification on fake-gamepad and vWii.

I look through this board every now and then to see if there's any new threads on the concept, and the best reply is usually stating that it doesn't seem possible until a Wii U exploit. I obviously can't say I disagree with that answer, but I'd imagine a lot could be learned by observing and experimenting with fake-gamepad's sent and received data.
Sucks though that the video is over a year outdated, and there doesn't appear to be a stable build, let alone an unstable build either.
