we are not getting red nand at all. only ssspwn, which runs homebrew and nothing more. even on 4.x.

Does this mean that the GW team was planning on releasing the update on the 22nd as well?

No, GW has no hand in the exploit that that notice is about.

A question. Is the blue card that comes with Gateway (for the DS roms I suppose) still work? Other cards like R4ids do so ... I was just wondering that right now.

As for an on-topic discussion .. I really hope there's no need for a 4.5 DS to update Gateway cards. I know NO ONE with one.. NO ONE.

I have no idea how they will do it, but it might require DS rom loading as a prerequisite. They could probably flash the card from the DS sandbox with no issues, if they go that route.

No. The R4 clone aka blue card is blocked above firmware 6 or 7.

Considering this is now my only option to play homebrew on my 3DS since every known copy of "Cubic Ninja" has been bought in Connecticut, I'm hyped as well too. If the GW Team can somehow drop the price a bit so I don't have to shell out $100 for a cartridge, then I'm definitely going to buy a Gateway cart.

For Smealum's upcoming homebrew launcher, yes. And it's not like it's a one-time thing where you can buy the game, install the homebrew, and then sell the cartridge again. You need the game EVERY TIME you want to use Homebrew, so chances are it'll be a while until used copies start showing up again in stores.

while i do suspect that this claim is correct, i wouldn't call an irc log that can't be proven to be real to be "proof" of anything. i could make up a fictional log saying whatever i want. it doesn't mean anything if there isn't anything showing the authenticity of the log.your "straight from smea" source is just someone with a reddit account that has < 100 comment karma (aka not a very active user)

i'd wait until smea tweets it before saying the cart is needed every bootup for certain.

Pretty sure its implied that it will need the game every time. This is a usermode exploit. Writing a channel (while not 100%) probably needs kernel access.
