Thats a bit flawed logic there...Sure. I mean, if a soldier steps on a mine, it's totally the soldier's fault - whoever laid down the minefield is exempted from any responsibility.
The soldier is the user that gets bricked if you put it like that.
What would be a more sound comparison is that Gateway made the ammunition, R4 fired the gun and the person that got bricked is the person that got hit.
Both Gateway and R4 play a part in getting the person bricked, if Gateway hadn't made the ammunition then R4 would not have it to shoot (or atleast not the same ammunition).
