v3.0 is out with added support for 3DS rom trimming.

No, and there never will be unless the roms themselves can be patched to not use so much space. Or that gateway will allow > 512KB saves.

I'm asking that question based on the assumption that this post is truthful about having it, and that it wasn't just a one off thing.

Its pretty rare because most VC games ask for more than 512KB, which necessitates the messy card2 workaround.
Hopefully GW team will listen to our cries and clean up this issue.

Ah, I didnt realize the save games took up so much space.

This might have been answered before, but, I have never "just saved at a save point" in a VC game, is the "save-state" in the VC menu the actual game save, or how is that handled?

EDIT: I just answered my own question after remembering the architecture of the VC .3ds files. I'm guessing the "save point save" is stored in the rom.zip, contained in the actual 3ds rom.

Will you add a DEP compatibility, please? It's works well in your beta 2 but not in the 3.0 release.

Done. I had compiled it on laptop at work.. where I didn't have the DEP fixes on some external files -.- I just rebuilt it at home and uploaded, should work now.
