i only got into mkwii hacking when it was ead i hope to get on this one from the start, well it will only become a popular thing when wiiu homebrew is a public thing that everyone can do until then it will never become a thing imo.

Which is why it's pointless holding back exploits. Plus, those dirty freedom-loving pirates will probably liberate the Wii U homebrew scene long before these wanna-be hackers release anything, if ever.

the only reason i ever hacked my wii and wiiu was to mod ssbb and make ssbb mods and such but until there isnt an homebrew for everyone then there isnt much of a point to even releasing an mod so releasing mk8 mod now wouldnt accomplish much imo.But this is only my opinion, i dont think any mod of any game will have the following it could have until wiiu homebrew is for everyone.

They are not wannabes, they just do not want to start piracy on the Wii U.

3DS scene is coming along great right now, MK7 mods are coming very soon... Unfortunately, you need a flashcard in order to run modified games. If you want fun now, move there. Wii U scene is practically dead.

Sure they're getting on with modding MK8 but it's very slow with just 1 - 2 people working. Expect a few more months to even see a preview of what's going to be there in a year or whatever. Even then, a new exploit is needed so it's all pointless currently and may lead to nothing.

What's going on in the 3DS scene? All I see is a hacker who put off his exploit hours before the time he spent the previous week hyping up.

These guys are just adding videos of the same basic thing everyday and monetizing it so they make money off of all the hopefuls that watch them in hopes they get a "release". As they said, Popularity contest(with a few $$ from clicks on the videos added to the mix).

Look around a bit. The folks on 4.x firmware can decrypt roms, modify them, and re-encrypt them. The file system is, just like the Wii U, similar to the Wii in most cases. Gericom is about to release a tool that will allow us to view and extract/import files from decrypted roms. As for re-encrypting, it's apparently possible, but hasn't been publicly released yet. It's supposed to be soon, though...

Yeah, that would be the only issue. Dunno what smea is gonna do with his mini exploit, though. Maybe that'll come soon? I don't really have any faith in it since I'm on 4.4, but I'm sure many others are pleading for it.

Hey, at least it's from a trusted dev that's actually promised something will be released. Very different from this place.

But they promised the same thing the devs here are promising you, they just are still working on it. I don't get what that jab was for.

Fair enough. Unfortunately, that's a pretty big issue, it's practically the PS3 all over again. I'm locked out until smealum decides to show mercy and release.

The people I'm following haven't promised shit, everything you need to do what I described has already been released. The issue is that it's incredibly non-user friendly. It would take a lot more time trying to get it working for yourself than to just wait for a nice GUI. I don't care what smea does right now. I doubt it'll lead to anything any time soon.

Also, what jab? What's happening here is nothing.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that the companies that make money on Piracy look like the good guys. I totally agree with that. You gotta think about smea's decision, though. It's either wait a little while and be able to use it on the fancy-shmancy "New 3DS", or watch it get patched in a heartbeat and be totally useless to the next generation. But like I said, what he's doing is practically worthless to me. I'm not the one to discuss this with.

If you looked at the mario kart 8 hacking wiki, you'd see they're busy making custom tracks right now.

See that's the thing is that I didn't know there was such a thing until just now. You'd think they'd document it on WiiUBrew.org, or, hell, even on the original tockdom site instead of making some brand new wiki just for one game.
EDIT: Of course it's tockdom, it's always tockdom.
EDIT2:

That's basically what I'm saying, pack up and go home. Nothing's going to happen anytime soon.

That will be when the New 3DS comes out, but only the Japan version.

I'm well aware, thanks. My statement still stands: I'm waiting for him to release it. In additon, smea said "we should release sometime after the n3ds jpn.".
huntereb, while I do understand his decision, doesn't that only ensure the new 3DS is exploitable in Japan? Can't they patch the US models before shipping/require new firmware to use upon startup or something? Sorry to sound a little ignorant.

Probably, I hope that SSSPwn will wait until after the world release of the n3ds, but he says that he is not waiting for that. (Yay Twitter.)

My first response is to say "He better not", but it's probably for the best, and what he may end up doing, despite all his claims to the contrary. I can picture all the reactions to that in my head right now.
