Hacking Virginize Wii Mode on Wii U

I'm thinking of selling my Wii U...

Is it possible to virginize the Wii Mode? I have softmodded it.

Also, what would the best HDMI adapter be for an old Wii?

There are some oldies I'd rather not miss out on on my old Wii...

it is not possible to virginize Wii Mode. there will always be traces if homebrew on it. because of this, the next owner (should you sell it) should be notified that if the console ever needs repairs by Nintendo, Nintendo may reject and ship it back over repairing it.

the best you can do for making Wii Mode seem legit would be to remove all CIOSes, and stuff installed from WADs then remove HBC last.

The biggest thing I worry about is an update bricking vwii, I have enough experience modding and repairing systems that I can almost alway fix my systems if they break.

This type of hacking is legal in many different countries around the world. That being said, it still violates Nintendo's Terms of Service (TOS) and their various software EULA's. Not too mention, any form or reverse engineering/hacking voids the warranty automatically.

As a consumer, in some countries, you have the legal right to do certain types of hacks on your consoles, however, you forfeit your warranty and technically any technical support from the manufacturer. They are in no way obligated to help you if you tampered with your console at all (hardware wise or software). If they choose to, they could still offer you technical support (or even repair services), but I can tell you this for certain. They aren't going to do this for free and they're free to charge whatever they want.

You're really at their mercy at this point. Even if you remove everything including any CIO's etc, Nintendo still has ways of finding 'traces' of these types of modifications.

The best option for getting a modded console repaired, is going to a third party service. Most third party repair services will not care if the console has been modified or not. Again this will be done for a fee, of course. Also coming to a forum like this is a good place to start basic troubleshooting on your own . Others here will have loads of advice on trying to pin point whatever your issue is, or may even have a DIY fix for it.

That's actually not strictly true. I don't think it has come up with video game consoles but with respect to smartphones the EU mandates that the company needs to prove that your modification caused the issue to arise.

That's probably why that memo on the hackmii site mentioned that they could run into legal issues as a result. Since the OP is in Sweden this could be relevant to him.

I'm not sure if it would end up being worth fighting Nintendo over it, though.

Ah okay, thanks for the correction on that. My statement was more of a broad generalization, but touche! Honestly, he'd be better off not going through Nintendo either way. Even if he has the legal right to do so, it may not end very well....

I'm pretty sure he know what's he's talking about, there are very deep internal parts of the system that are altered and cannot be reversed even upon hack erasure/deletion.

With nands (and wear-leveling), parts of a file system can be around literally until the chip is completed destroyed.

Exactly my point, traces will remain irrespective of how much the end-user erases.

Bug_Checker_ is absolutely correct here. This is how computer forensics specialists are able to recover evidence that has been "erased" several times over . Nintendo is known to run their own sort of forensics tools on consoles people send in for repairs to make sure you haven't made any software alterations to the console. If they find any evidence of modifications they aren't obligated to fix your console as its no longer under warranty.
