I am sure you can play any games in any region but the main question is would the games be in english?

No if the game is say Monster Hunter 4 it will be in Japanese standard, when it means region free in classic mode/GW Mode, it does not mean the games come in English language. If its a japanese release it will be Japanese language if its a USA or a Euro rom it will be English. Hope that helps you :)

The language of the ROM is independent of the 3DS - so if you download a European copy of "Super Mario 3D Land" it will be in English.

I'm curious, where would you actually get a 4.5 3DS?
Lots of places, they're hardly impossible to find just yet. I can walk to a store within 3km's of my house and pick up about 45 3DS XL's all running 4.x, I checked a few weeks ago and they were still there.

What part of Japan do you live in? I've been to used game stores in both Himeji and Osaka and when I ask if I can "check" if the 3DS works, they don't allow me to get as far as the settings screen... =/

Edit: I realized I did not specify how to get a 4.5 "Japanese" 3DS LL. I have an American 4.5 XL and am looking to also get a Japanese one. Thanks for the info, anway.

You can just check the serial number.

You can just check the serial number.

If I were looking for a new unit, I'd definitely make sure to check the serial number and copyright date on the box.
But seeing as how used units have a high chance of having been upgraded via game carts, the serial number wouldn't be of much help.

Thanks for the idea, though. :grog:
