Currently needs a flashcart.
is the 3ds capable?......sure, eshop games run from the SD
is it possible atm to run games from the SD that havent been bought legitimatley from the eshop?........ no
nobody knows....well if someone has a exploit and they are planning to release it they would know, but not from the looks of it the only people working on hacks are against piracy and will ensure they aren't used for piracy as best they can
It's possible. It's just a matter of devs wanting to release it in spite of increasing piracy concerns (or profit-reducing concerns for themselves). But do you think that it will be able in some near future? something like the psp exploit?
im 99% sure at *some point* there will be a free rom loader, but right now the only people with knowledge on how to do so atm either want you to buy their flashcard, or don't want people to have one
it would still likely require a 4.x console though
Where Am it's totally legal, all sort of games copies; DVDs,ROM possession is legal, then there is no Nintendo official presence. It's possible. It's just a matter of devs wanting to release it in spite of increasing piracy concerns (or profit-reducing concerns for themselves).
It'll happen at some point, but i don't know when.
Good point except most devs I'm thinking about are in Europe and the US where Nintendo has the jurisdiction to sue or even prosecute via international treaties.Nice!! that's what I was thinking about too ,we defintely share the same point of view on that matter, when i first saw that gateway launcher.dat being put in the 3DS SD card then I knew that was possible and depends exclusively of'em.

Hard to figure out! Even if I want to buy a flashcart all what i've got here is gateway clones that potentially bricks the 3DS, and if i try to buy online it will be confiscated by customsThe problem is how long will it be.
it's a classic situation of "don't bite the hand that feeds you" ... The feeding in this case coming from gateway
Even if a free rom loader appears, within the next Nintendo update it will render new games unplayable and if Nintendo got more tricks up their sleeve like the 7.2 crypto then this free rom loader will die out eventually and gateway will say screw it, we don't get enough sales to continue
they can keep making new crypto keys, right now on the software side of things nintendo is well and truly winning....no hacks above 4.5(except the ones that are private and usermode only) and newer games/content unplayable on the hacked consoles
afaik that would require a bootloader exploit, im no expert on the matter, but the issueis loading into a patched firmware is what gateway is doing....the encryption keys are generated by the bootloader.....to use the current exploit you need to boot into stock 4.x, meaning the new encryption keys are not generated.....which is why 6.x save crypto and 7.2 ncch crypto doesnt work even though the 3ds ends up in 7.2 eventually.Faking a firmware version number theoretically shouldn't be too hard, nor would somehow intercepting an update from nintendo and patching it to leave in existent exploits -- this is basically how ps3 custom firmware works (there's more to it obviously, but at a high level...)

this is where idk, but maybe it might be possible to make a 4.x nand with a 7.x bootloader, but this would need to be flashed to the system nand...and idk if the new bootloader would accept loading the 4.x firmware...or if its even possible....and before any of that could be done, decrypting the firmware, modifying it and re-encrypting it would need to be possible
