Hi guys,

My family is going on a vacation next week, and there is a Xbox360 at the cabin we're staying - I am wondering if I can play movie on this Xbox360.

I heard Xbox needs to be hacked to play movies, but I need someone to confirm this.

Can I play movie on my USB with Genuine Xbox 360? If I can, what extension should it be?
The one I have is 720p MKV file, but I will convert to other format to play it (maybe to AVI?).

Thank you!

They'll have to be burnt into the film fragment.
External subs aren't supported (as far as I know)

I think you've got more luck with pairing it to your Media center laptop/pc.

I don't have a cable to connect my Macbook to TV...
Can you confirm me if WMV extension works with the genuine Xbox360? :)
If you can provide me a list of other supported extensions, it would be so much appreciated!

1 more question, should the USB formatted as FAT32 or NTFS? The movie file exceeds 4gb....

you'll save your self time and effort if you just buy a cable for your laptop. they are like 2 bucks.

Or you could connect your laptop wirelessly with the 360, and have the 360 play them that way. Plays loads more formats this way (provided your laptop plays them), thats how I stream them. Still a no go as far as subtitles are concerned though I believe.

AVI and WMV are the only ones.
360 only supports FAT32.

As like nando said, it's indeed better to get a HDMI cable for your laptop then.
Considering it's an Apple product as well, they don't mix quite well with Microsoft related things.
