Hardware Need Bluetooth USB dongle to work on PC for DS3..from DX.com

Will this work? I'm not looking to spend more than 15 dollars, and I know DX is sort of a mixed bag, but I don't just want to go off that one guy's comments.

It works fine for my DualShock 3. I'd imagine the BT 3.0 one you linked would work fine as well, but the 2.0 is definitely cheaper. I'd also recommend buying two or three because I have seen some burn out after very little use (I've also seen some have tons of use on them and work fine)

If MotionInJoy (I think I remember there being another driver too, idr what though) supports having multiple controllers connected, then yes, you would be able to do multiplayer. It's one controller per dongle, in any case. And yeah, plug it in to the back, the front, a hub, anything really. Just note that the farther it is away from you and the more metal (or anything) it's sitting behind (back of a computer tower for example) you're going to be adversely affecting your signal strength and overall range of the controller. That said, you'd probably even be fine sitting on the couch in an average sized living room if your computer is as far away as the TV would be. If you're gonna be sitting right at the computer, I wouldn't even worry about it then.

Do yourself a favor and use this XInput Wrapper for DS3. It's infinitely better than the pile of junk that is MotionInJoy, lets you use multiple controllers, is easy to set up, and isn't full of bloated crap. I've got the same (or at least a very similar) dongle as the one in the OP and it works just fine for me, so go for it if you want or you can follow Sickly's first post and buy a BT2.0 for cheaper.

It's infinitely better than the pile of junk that is MotionInJoy, lets you use multiple controllers, is easy to set up, and isn't full of bloated crap. I've got the same (or at least a very similar) dongle as the one in the OP and it works just fine for me, so go for it if you want or you can follow Sickly's first post and buy a BT2.0 for cheaper.

I feel a little bad.

I know there's no Joy to be found in MotionInJoy lol I just couldn't recall if/what other drivers existed.

Also there's threads it's actually counterfeit so that it tells computer it's other chipset that it actually is whichs results driver issues, at least some seem to use same MAC address so you can only use one at the time within same area, etc.
Also it's 2.0 so I guess there may be some issues with newer devices.

It's cheap Chinese electronics, you're always going to get a mixed bag when it comes to this stuff. At that low of a price, that's why I said to pick up a few. I've seen one burn out on a friend, just up and stopped working. That's it. Otherwise they just have a fairly crappy range. I've listened to music that was cutting in and out over a HFP profile headset from about 20 feet away, for a really solid signal you need to be pretty much within 10 feet give or take a few, from my experience. And unless I'm mistaken, the Bluetooth protocol is completely backwards compatible, so as long as the adapter supports whatever profiles the connected device is trying to use, you shouldn't run into an issue with newer devices.

As far as having the same MAC, I don't know, I've only ever used one at a time.

As far as drivers, you can usually force it to recognize as "Generic USB Bluetooth Radio" without an issue. As far as being counterfeit, see the "cheap Chinese electronics/mixed bag" lol. And as far as DX, hand in hand with the "mixed bag" part lol. Sometimes you do get what you pay for, sometimes there's no need to pay an exorbitant markup, sometimes you're shooting craps.

Most of the stuff I ordered from them at least works but with bluetooth adapters I've been throwing them away as soon as I get new one which seemed like waste - some won't install, some work for couple months and computer simply stops detecting it, some works randomly with random USB port. Other thing was that DS/Wii USB wifi AP adapter which only worked with XP, but even that still worked nonetheless and still works if I use virtual machine!
Bit off topic but I hope this actually works that I didn't just waste $90 dx.com/p/285264 as random capturing doesn't take much and even used ones cost $140.

For single-dongle use with a PS3 controller or two, the DX ones are pretty solid, really. I've got two laptops with built-in bluetooth that won't work with any DS3 driver - SCP, MotionInJoy/BetterDS3, etc; I've had the same $4 dongle for years and it's worked fairly flawlessly with official DS3 controllers and the knockoffs I've bought from DealExtreme; I've had some trouble getting another site's cheap knockoff controller working wirelessly, but it's hardly a big deal.

I'd say that if you're going to look at a name-brand adapter, find the hardware IDs first and make sure it's compatible with the DS3 driver you want to use, at the very least.

Get a USB extension cable or two to distance whichever dongle you get from the computer. It can/will greatly improve the signal and reduce risk of dropout.

Works really well, just plug and play (not extra drivers needed). Even has a physical switch on the side that will change whether your PS3 controller is detected and mapped as either an Xbox 360 controller or a generic direct input device. In the second mode it will support up to 4 controllers.

Great user experience and no having to fuck with all of the weird drivers that are out there right now. Can highly recommend.

One thing it falls short on, however, is not registering input from the sixaxis gyroscope/accelerometer thing, and no analog input from the shoulder buttons.

Do share your results. I am up for even a bit of bad HDMI capable capture and the dollar is pretty weak right now.

Needs installing unsigned drivers which they do give instructions to. 1080p image doesn't even show up but 1080i shows up as promised. No problems with DHCP at all. Little bit codec installing and using Virtualdub image quality is pretty good, just tiny bit shadowing/resampling visible but not sure if it's just my virtualdub settings.

HDMI, seemingly not bothered by HDCP and plays nice with virtualdub (I have yet to encounter a capture program I like in the consumer world for this sort of capture so this is great)... it sounds like it recompresses to MPEG2 onboard which is not ideal but the rest sounds like what I need.
Not that I especially mind by how is the latency?

Did I see component capture via the "DVI" port as well?

I seemed to be able to even play with virtualdub preview, there's still minor latency so playing diva game with it doesn't work but other games should be playable while recording it seems. That's why I got HDMI splitter as well but it doesn't seem to have enough oomph for 1080p image and simply refuses to work so I'll just leave it out of the picture :\
It did come with component/s-video to DVI converter, have to test that later on. Sold my earlier adapter as it had some...problems especially with interlacing image and messing up colors and brightness, that was also from DX but was much cheaper toy:

Yeah the only times I want USB involved with my capture are if my PC is being used as a remote control for it or I am capturing to a USB 3.0 drive.

I have only needed to capture from VCRs (loop back on my PC does what I need there) in recent years so I have not bothered to maintain proper capture options otherwise, looks like times are changing though.
