Thanks. I thought it was in Japanese so I didn't link it at first.

No problemo!

I just happened to stumble upon the info a while back and was about to write a piece on it. Good that someone else found the info too! The event itself brings quite a bit of new information regarding Nintendo's next years. Especially the emerging markets section interests me quite a bit due to the possibility of some kind of new previous generation console/remake of the consoles.

So now we have Disney Infinity vs Skylanders vs Nintendo thingy.
I can see this being a hit in japan but I'm nt so sure stateside. Skylanders have to large of a hold on multitude of platforms. As does Disney infinity. I can see this doing mildly well on Nintendo platforms but without the enormous install base the other two have, I don't see it doing to well...

If they also make Pokemon ones, trust me, it'll pick up in the west. Kids will beg their parents for that pikachu or that charizard. x'D

An ADDON for the 3DS? It will fail(at least in 3DS' side) or it won't be required for 95% of the games released using it.
You underestimate the allure of collectable crap. The figurines (and add-on) won't be required, but they will be sought after. People pay a lot of money for superficial unlockable content as it is, and coupled with tangible collectible figurines it will sell like hot cakes.

(When was the last time any of you bought a hot cake? Why is that expression even used any more? )

Because "It sells like the nintendo DS" would sound egotistical.

This definitely has potential. Although how well it'll work on handheld is debatable. I can't even be bothered to carry around 3ds carts, much less figures lawl.

I was thinkin exactly the same. If history tells something then it's that extra addon peripherals which require support from game will never work with consoles even if they are good and/or cheap. With 3DS prime example is circle pad pro. Even if some people want it they won't get it as only couple games support it.

What would be better for Nintendo is to enable sending NFC data from Wii U or Mobile Phone to 3DS. This would of course mean worse sales to peripheral but NFC would be bigger thing.
As for figurines themselves I guess they would mostly be bought by Nintendo fans so they wouldn't be console sellers in any way.

Another thing is: Why in the fuck is there NFC on gamepad in first place? DS and 3DS already communicate wirelessly with Wii U if needed and there's no mobile applications from Nintendo.

Also would like to ask as I don't own any skylander/infinity figurines are those figurines NFC tags protected in some way or is it easy to write your own tags and then just scan them?

I know of a person who mapped all the tags and enabled the additional content for Skylanders without having the actual figurines present. The dude got a DMCA takedown and had to remove the code and findings IIRC. The tech is nowhere near hack proof. Samsung's NFC Beam is hacked too IIRC
