I thought the same thing , I think Pokebank saves data to the cartridge and he ejected the game out while pokebank was saving the data or something like thatI thought he clicked out the cartridge, as it sounded like that, but I tried doing this as fast as possible myself after 5 spins on the progress bar - it simply gave a connection error and stopped the progress.
It just came to my mind that he might have clicked the SD card out, but I'm not going to try that, as I don't want that to get corrupted :<
Try ejecting after 2.5 - 3.2 rounds.
1-Backup your save with Powersaves3ds
2-Deposit pokemon in bank
3-Restore your save
Wash, Rinse, Repeat
What is the mystery?

Have you tried it ? did it work for you ?
Or are you just suggesting
?
This method is dangerous, I was able to do it, but lost my Celebi in the process. If you want to attempt it, how you do it is simple. Click x to save, when the circle has gone around about 3.5 times, eject the game and hold the power button and turn the 3ds off at the same time.
I was able to clone the celebi I got from pokebank. I then tried to clone both of the celebi at once, and when I turned the power back on, they where both gone.So , you were able to clone ?
And can you tell exactly how you lost your celebi ??
